Looks like Beckerman wins the job

Pritzloff told them NO, Scott Moore said no!

Todd just had $6 million dollars dropped in his team lap. You could be right, but that is hard to walk away from. Although no scholarships for athletes, for most families making (around) under $125,000 the students have zero student loans coming out of Brown. The parents would have some costs year to year. Most Ivys aren't a bad deal moderate income families.

Nice to hear that about Brown. My son got a letter from them a few weeks ago. He is only a sophomore, but a guy who went the same high school as me has a son on the Brown team and he said he would give him my son's name. I never gave much thought to Brown since it is Ivy League and we are midwestern fly over country types. Although my son seems to be much classier than me (gotten mostly from his mother), I am a border line redneck (at least in my mind anyway). Any other info anyone can pass along about Brown?

I believe Brown went to pass/fail (not certain). In and of itself, how do you differentiate between a terrific pass and a low pass. I would be shocked if many kids fail.
My Wharton pro friend told me that once kids are accepted to Ivy schools, there’s a large, I am entitled to really good grades because I git accepted, class.
A very trivial note: my uncle had a book of his poetry in the library.
And, a relative’s family lives there, and shares the rennaisance in the restaurant and downtown.

Brown did not go pass/fail, they have a grading system with A, B and C. They have an Open Curriculum that allows you to take any classes you wish outside of your major (called concentration at Brown). With the open Curriculum Brown wants you to take classes that allow you to explore other educational subjects. The are no mandatory classes outside your concentration.

You can take classes as pass/fail instead of a grade. However any good advisor would tell you to limit that grading selection as employers frown upon non-graded classes.

As to rigorous the academics, chances are the student on one side of you is his high schools valedictorian and the student on your left was his high schools salutatorian.

There is no free ride.

Yeah, but can they stop a good double and do they know that they should not step over a whizzar?

As I've posted here quite a few times, I've spent quite a few nationals with the Brown crew. One of my very best friends was a 2-time Easterns champ, the HC for a short period of time and the Friends of Brown Wrestling leader when they pushed back against dropping the program a while ago.

Really great group of guys who are smart, successful and still down to earth. I've met numerous wrestlers and they have all been very impressive.

I'm assuming your son is a wrestler - It's not the B1G, but the EIWA is a great league to wrestle in. Outstanding competition, outstanding academic institutions, an environment that's going to churn out men who are successful at life. If you have an opportunity for your son to attend Brown, it's really hard not to give it great consideration. Finances are not an obstacle there. People would be shocked at how little it costs even upper middle class families. They'll tell you to trust them during the financial process - do it, they don't disappoint. The only people paying a big ticket are the ones where a big ticket is a small dent. Many families will pay as much or more to attend a state school (at least in PA, where state schools are not all that much of a bargain).

I will be bummed if Beckerman leaves, he's an outstanding coach. They've got a big war chest now, though, so I imagine they will be an attractive destination if he does.

Paterno had a few less-than-charitable things to say about the students at Brown, though, in his 1989 memoir. Some of them rich WASP types used to use a certain "W" slur word to refer to him...

That was back in the late '40s, though. Good grief, I feel old just thinking about it. I'm assuming there are still plenty of snobs at Brown, but probably a far different kind...

With that said, wrestling is wrestling. I'm sure the Brown wrestlers are some of the best people on campus.

Thanks, I appreciate the insight.

matter7172, with the errors in announcing the team trophies in Pittsburgh, what does the 9th place Trophy look like?

* that was tossed underhand, right over the plate.

They are getting pretty desperate from what I'm hearing. Everyone is turning down the job!

If they really need a coach and want to make me the same 140k offer... Id probably just take the job for something to do at this point.

Didn't they just recieve a HUGE dontaion?

Today I received an email from Brown coach Todd Beckerman regarding a fundraiser I participate in. I wanted him to stay so it was one of the best asks for money email I have ever received. Best of luck to Alex and Maryland.
