Working on a small archive of the best matches from the weekend (sorry, no Byers audio this time). But for now--how about a nice Nick highlight reel? Includes all 7 4 pointers (really, I think the one 2+2 against McKee was one, so should have been 8).

Thanks, that was terrific.

What was Nick's other scoring vs Yanni?
A variety of takedowns and push-outs?

With Yianni‘s freestyle savvy, he turned a lot of attempted turns by Nick in the 2nd into two & two situations, where they each scored.

Thank you for covering Nick. It almost seems like Nick was being treated as that 3rd son or the little step-child as far as Trial coverage goes. He is just 3 years from moving from the college kid to a man child and I won't be surprised if he won't be a favorite to make the 2024 Olympic team! Nick continues to move up levels. Anybody?

Im never bettin against him

Amazing highlights and from just one tournament lol. He was a machine. He looks smaller than all of those guys, to me, except Yianni. Yianni needs to hit the gym.

How in the world does he go from almost getting pinned to flipping garrett right over? Crazy. Looked like a guy who was confident to try anything and not afraid to end up in any position. Loved his matches.

For awhile now Nick has gone with that Russian tie but only recently has he gotten a ton of offense from it, as if he's gone from knowing only the first verse to knowing the whole song. From the Russian tie, you have so many more options than when you're square and shooting from space, and it seems like Nick now feels comfortable trying to capitalize on all of them. In an interview after the trials he mentioned having more "situational confidence," and you can really see it on the mat because he's looking for offense in situations where most (US) wrestlers just bail. That'll serve him well overseas eventually.

As much as I respect Nick for what he does on the mat, I have even more because of the kind of young man he is. His response to the interviewer who asked him about how he felt about defeating Zain was pure class: " He's a brother, there's really no joy in that".

Thanks for posting this, El-Jefe. When someone mentioned that Nick has always been a thrower, the throw in your post was the one that came to mind. Fun to see it again! (As a footnote, sadly Nick lost on a throw by OSU's Gfeller, if I remember correctly, in the finals. But that also showed that Nick wasn't afraid to take a chance)

Also, Diehl in Round 1 of NCAAs that year. But I think Nick has rebounded pretty nicely from those losses. 😁
