To begin, I will say that Penn State spends a ton of NIL on retention and it does play a role in how they recruit. Now every situation is different, as you saw with the Kendal Daniels situation. He had an insanely high asking price and a lot of teams balked at it, however if Penn State matched that price that he wanted he would've been a Nittany Lion. However they decided not to and he commits to the local school in Oklahoma. Just to be clear, the Sooner DID NOT outbid Penn State here, rather PSU decided not to up their offer.
Another situation you can look at is former 2025 RB recruit Alvin Henderson. It's been mentioned that if all things were equal NIL wise, he would've been a Nittany Lion. However again Penn State decided against it and he's now signed with Auburn.
Like mentioned above, the staff prefers to spend their money on retention and it's a big reason why guys like Drew Allar and Nick Singleton both look likely to return in 2025.
