I, for one, would like to see them re-tool this tournament.
Hold it over 2 days. A 2-day tournament would benefit the local economy and produce more revenue for NLWC.
Use 8 mats, maximum.
Organize the bout sequence better as you had Zain, among others, wrestling his quarter final match before Nico.
Cael has spoiled me with the way he does things. He always seems to have an organized plan for his program and its competitions.
This tournament always appears to be something they throw together to fill some calendar space.

Hold it over two days and watch participation drop. Ten weight classes, ten mats. Organization does seem shoddy, but getting the big boards involved this year helped. For the first time I knew where Penn State's unattached wrestlers were. Too bad they weren't kept up to date.

This will never be a two-day tournament, as that will steal a competition date the way our coaches schedule.

You are looking at things from the view point of a fan and have valid points based on that view point. However, the tournament is for the wrestlers, not the fans. First, as Roar pointed out for PSU making it a 2 day event is a no go no matter what because of competition dates. As to the organization it is all done by volunteers as the event is a money making event for the NLWC. They can certainly make changes to make it more fan friendly but cost issues are going to keep it from being run like NCAAs, BIGs, etc.

Thank you for that explanation. You are correct. I am looking at it from the point of view of a fan. I guess, for this particular instance, I need to look at it from a different perspective. That would also explain the fair number of medical forfeits that are taken. I always listen to Cael talking about growing the sport, so I'm naturally assuming that all of these competitions are dedicated to primarily attracting fan interest.

I think I was hoping to see a tournament that is run very similar to how the NCAA tournament is run when you have 30 in a weight class. The only difference, of course, would be that it would be over 2 days instead of 3.

...our group had a great time...

...the scoreboards helped a lot ... much better than East Stroudsbug Open ...

... another open refreshment stand would have helped ...

...a couple of vendors selling brackets through the stands would probably generate more revenue ...

...announcing Penn State reps when their bouts came up was very helpful...
