You guys need to think out of the box a little bit. The ultimate Penn State recruit hands down would have been Sadulaev. GIA would have been mortified when the commitment was announced.

Provided the context is “if PSU didn’t have the guys it had at the time” . . .

IMar all day

Honorable mention to Zeke Moisey

And going back 2 decades — Chris Fleeger and Jake Herbert

Jake started college wrestling around the time Cael was finishing. Hypothetically had Cael coached Jake, do you see a way Cael could have coached up Jake to beat Ben Askren in the NCAA finals? Ben was the top dog back then!

I was torn between Kem and Carr as both are such class acts. I voted for Kem only because he’s a PA guy and I like the story line of Carr being at ISU like his dad. Wrestling accolades didn’t factor in for me because, honestly, PSU didn’t need either one

Oh, but of course! 😉

Askren would be a good pick, too. My criteria were:
(1) Excellent wrestler
(2) I was a fan of their work at the time
(3) I can remember them off the top of my head on a Friday night after a long week of work rotting my brain in front of a computer screen.

Askren fell a little short on #3, lol.

I'd go with Ben Askren. I liked his creative wrestling style and it'd probably be a lot fun playing disc golf with him.

But, the main reason I selected him was because he's done a great job developing kids. It'd be pretty sweet if PSU had always been the primary hub for his pipeline of kids. That could have added a lot of talent to the line-up.

The moment someone planted both feet out of bounds and picked Askren ...

Clock is now ticking, just a matter of time until multliple people pick Schalles.
Bill Koll's ghost says, "Goddamn right, Schalles. Only time I ever ask for an academic exemption."

I think Hamiti with 5 full years at PSU, wrestling at his proper weight of 174 (or even 184) would have been a multiple time national champion.

Some are violating the “last ten years criteria” but that’s okay. The poll settings don’t allow enough options to go further. Someone said Ness and I definitely agree.

Kinda left a hole in our lineup and it certainly would have make things interesting for Lee at 125
He also won his first title at 133, so keeping him wouldn't have solved that problem.

Glory would've been better, though he allegedly wanted nothing to do with PSU. So maybe Vito, until RBY graduated?
