Not looking good for Deon Barnes to get drafted

His choice, but it will ultimately change his path of life. Hopefully he can use his degree and get a decent job

Sad that he would give that advice to a young man. Would definitely concern you as a parent if your son was considering Ohio St.

Too bad he chose to listen to a coach from an opposing team for advise rather than his own coaches.

I know it's been said that Johnson advised him to enter the draft, but I had not heard that the Penn State coaches advised him not to.

Did LJ really advise him to enter the draft? Or is that chatter? That being said, I do not think another year would make Barnes any better. He has peaked. He NOT an NFL guy. I wish him luck and happy for him that he will try. I do expect him to move on and I believe he has his degree?

If indeed Johnson gave him advice would that be an infraction?
Say he gives Barnes advice and says something like take care of your body for draft, would that be game tampering? i.e. Barnes plays without intensity against OSU.

Well, I hope it works out for him. Had he stayed behind it might have helped, and he'd have a year of grad school under his belt as well, as the worst case scenario.

He should have listened to everyone and got a broad range of ideas, not just listened to LJ. I know we're just fans, but I don't think anyone said it was a great idea for him to leave early, and not just because we wanted his talent on the team for another year. Hopefully he makes it out of training camp.

How can you not suspect LJ giving Barnes advice that benefits Ohio State more than Barnes?

This is the type of thing that eventually gets back to recruits. If he is willing to tell one young man something that hurts him to Ohio St's benefit, what makes you think he isn't steering Ohio St kids wrong too?

How do you guys know LJ advised him to leave? I haven't seen any evidence yet so I had to ask.

It's not something that you are going to see show up on police reports. It's not like Johnson is going to cop to it. If you are a coach of a rival team and you advise a player from another team to leave early, so that it benefits your team, are you going to come out to reporters and say "Yes, that was me, I certainly was the one who advised a player who NOBODY had going in any round of the draft, that it would be a great idea if he gave up his final year of eligibility..." That's not going to happen.

Keep in mind also, that while Johnson advised Barnes to leave, he advised his own player, Adolphis Washington, a CONSENSUS third round pick at the latest, to stay in school.

Maybe you can be like BushwoodCC and not believe anything until Jeff Nelson reports it.

What do you expect? A tape recording of a conversation? I am very confident that the sources of the info are correct. and "Please believe me" is NOT the same as "Believe whatever you'd like." Obviously.

I don't need a tape recording, but you already knew that didn't you smart guy? Any data that makes this likely other than your "please believe me I'm sure it's accurate and you should just listen to me because I'm ..."

Fair question. It was discussed here quite a bit a few months ago, but I do not recall the source. Did Barnes tweet it? I looked up "larry johnson deion barnes" on Google and found nothing relevant.

Data? Public source? Nope. I shared something I am confident about, and anybody can dismiss it. Why would anybody make this stuff up? For all of the glory and adulation that one receives on these boards for sharing info? Yeah, right.

No. This is a total BS statement. And David M I like you, but not one damn ounce of proof has been put forward to back this up. I'm not saying this is or isn't true, but this poster shouldn't go mocking others when that's the same damn thing as what the whole world did to Joe and Penn State and you know it.

List one shred of evidence that this occurred? And I'm not talking Internet message board innuendos. And if it did occur, LJ should have recused himself and notified JF.

David is telling us to trust him. If he is going to assert that it happened, he should tell us how he knows. Where did he hear this?

Is David the only one here who brought this information to this site? Did anyone else hear it independently?

My statement wasn't about David, but the mocking of others that should just automatically believe it's true without proof. David is a straight up guy and I tend to believe him. I have not seen him mock anyone either. But others have for questioning and that's not right. It's the same exact thing we've been fighting for three plus years. The media said it so it must be true in regards to Penn State. We should question everything.

I think that, for a couple of reasons (actually, several), psuro's last comment is a great final note to this thread. ;) We all wish Deion the very best.

Let's put it this way.

People we know and trust, including publishers/writers from the big 3 PSU fan websites, have also corroborated the information. If you don't believe it....fine, don't. Then don't complain when you have sand in your ears from having it too far buried.

However he was advised, he is not with PSU anymore and all we can do is wish him good luck.

How do we know he didn't just make the decision himself? It was said early in this thread that PSU's coaches advised him not to enter the draft. Where has that been documented?
