You absolutely can not judge a parent's character based on the actions of his/her son.
And I'm not saying you should.

After four years in the program, he wasn't drafted. Regardless of what LJ did or didn't do, a fifth year likely wasn't going to make a big difference. Maybe he just wanted to get on with the next stage of his life.seems like he could have used another year but I guess we all knew that

You have no idea what advice he gave him! It was smart for Deion for seek all advice he could get, even former coaches. You have no clue what Larry told him. And EVEN IF larry said he should go, Deion is making te decision. Whatever larry said to him was one of MANY pieces to the puzzle. Guys, he coaches at Ohio state. Get over it. He's not the devil. These comments may seem surprising, coming from me, but I'm not sure why anybody is denouncing LJ sr in general, despite his encouragement of Deion Barnes to declare for the draft. He was a very successful assistant coach and recruiter at Penn State for a long time. I simply contend that his involvement with Barnes and his draft status was patently inappropriate and unethical, and he gave the kid some bad advice. No hate here, no calling him a traitor, no generalizing about his family. He simply should have known better, as a current Ohio State coach, than to get involved with his former team's player.

Do you actually think when Larry picked up the phone his intentions were "how can I screw over one of my old players who I view as one of my own, to make a terrible decision for himself career wise so that my loaded National Championship OSU team doesn't have to face a mediocre (at best) defensive end on a Penn State team that is coming off a dismal 6-6 season"? Do you really think that's what went through his mind? I'm sorry but anyone who believes that is an idiot / is a JZ conspiracy theorist.
How is that part time job at suicide prevention going for you? Sheesh - give the kid a break.
From what I have heard - this is from the father of a current squad member who plays on the defensive line (I won't mention whom or the position).
1. Barnes wanted to go.
2. Barnes' father did not want him to go.
3. Barnes (along with James and Smith) were not impressed/happy with Franklin. (No reason given as to why, just that they were not). They all felt they wanted to move on with their lives and careers.
4. LJ Sr. and Barnes did speak. I don't know all the details, but I was informed that LJ Sr said "Do what your heart tells you to."
That is what I was informed- obviously I cannot "link" the conversation since it happened in person, and you can choose to believe me or not. I am simply passing on the information.

You know, I was thinking that my last post, in which I tried to provide some healthy perspective on the whole Barnes/LJ situation would be--my last post on the subject.Nahhhhh--too simple.
Look, latty, I don't know you. I don't know who you are, what you're good at, whether you're really knowledgeable about certain subjects or issues. And you don't know me. Did you know that I'm somewhat of an expert on Viking artifacts, and bought and sold them for over a dozen years? Of course you didn't--why would you? And you don't know who I might know--who my contacts are in the Penn State community. You don't know what I might know. So don't assume that because you don't know something that somebody else doesn't either.
I don't know why LJ did what he did. I just know that he had no business getting involved in Deion's decision.
This is a great example why it is best to t to let everyone's story play out. Barnes left too early, but look at the great talent ready to step in and take his role. This is how you build a championship team.Too bad he chose to listen to a coach from an opposing team for advise rather than his own coaches.
