Now that the Exibition is over.... on to NWCA Duals and Nationals

Someone tell TJ Foley to bag his predictions. He looks like he was Nebraska student broadcaster someone pulled out of the crowd to make predictions for the Penn State-Ohio State match. Nothing like giving yourself an illegal fist to the cranium in his WTF prediction for the winning side. Foley... full of himself. Never have I ever... experienced that. :rolleyes:o_O

Here is a thought for everbody.
History says February is only a step towards the March peak. Which means what everybody saw tonight is significantly less than what they will be taking to St Louis.

Against Edinboro:

Rogers got pinned again tonight.

Boyd only won by 2.

JoJo didn't wrestle.

Crutchmer needed SV to win.

Pinninnicci lost.

We might beat Okie 7-3 or even 8-2 if everything breaks right.

We'll take care of business, but I would venture a bet that about 25% of what we do, will go off the mat, since that tiny little mat is made for 14 year olds.

This team has won in Minneapolis, Lincoln, Iowa City, and now Columbus. Stillwater is next then B1Gs and Nationals. Okies might get 2 wins but no more than decisions.

Tonight they still won the take down battle despite Tomasello and Snyder getting 18 TDs between them. Pretty impressive showing tonight. Zain wore MJ out. Bo was not happy. Jimmy did well and I thought Nevills hung tough against the best in the world. Snyder just beat the Russians. MM was close till the end, too, and Carp never gave up. Suriano, Nolf, and Joseph toyed with their victims.

I would guess you boys should beat Okl.State 36-8. Can only see the cowboys winning at 41 and 33..

I'm not saying it will happen on that day, but ONE day, or night, this season, Dean Heil is not going to get his hand raised. When you win every match by one or two points, eventually you make a mistake, and you lose a match by one or two points.

Last time I checked, Illinois is next. I'm looking forward to Joseph getting some experience vs. IMar before B1Gs, Hall getting more mat time against a ranked opponent in Brunson, and Nevills working on polishing some technique vs. Black. An important dual, IMO.

It will also be nice for "Wreck" Hall to get a chance to compete in front of his home fans and for the fans to give him a nice, loud standing "welcome to family" ovation.

Gotta love the Boro - not one of their better teams, but in classic Pennsy fashion they're going to make you remember them.... Boro is maybe the 3rd best team in Pennsy, their line-up is virtually always "home-grown" despite having to compete with PSU, Lehigh & more D1 wrestling teams than any other State by a factor of like 3x....and they still freaking hung with supposedly mighty (especially according to Intermat) Okie State! Gotta love Boro, the way they wrestle and the way they "represent" in regards to Pennsy grappling.

Yes. And this is one of the problem I have with OK State hanging with us at NCAA's. Many of their guys either win too many close bouts or are hot and cold from match to match. These attributes can kill you in a tournament setting.

They won't hang. Okie St will have maybe one still wrestling on Saturday night and PSU will have 5. It will be clinched in the afternoon.

Yes, agree here.

At the beginning of the season, I would have guessed we wouldn't know until Saturday afternoon (at least mathematically). I have become a believer in the two freshmen, then adding the third. now, I think you have it clinched Friday night. Fight is for 2nd.

They must be an absolute nightmare matchup for anyone. We have two guys who regularly beat (so I hear) Mega and David Taylor in the room, a national champion at another weight, Jason Nolf at another, the nations number 1 recruit now in the lineup and a top 5 heavy weight.

So...Illinois, Illinois, Illinois, Illinois, Illinois...

If we beat Okie St by 20 or so points does anybody think we can hang onto our 2nd place ranking?

Not sure which is more ridiculous, Foley's tOSU/PSU prediction or Intermat having us ranked 2nd.

The 2nd ranking is more ridiculous by a mile.

There was nothing wrong with the prediction. Pletcher over Gulibon is reasonable given Jimmys inconsistency over his career. Jordan over Hall....hard to imagine how that's a stretch. Some of our winners got more bonus than they predicted and Snyder was predicted to get a TF. Snyder didn't get the TF but....he is the best in the world. So. Foley is what he is but that match may have been different if it went 5-5. Pletcher winning puts more noise in the place too.

Agree with most of your points here, but predicting only 3 bonus points is borderline ridiculous IMO.

Just have to appreciate a mind set that ranks 7 Penn State kids higher than Okie State kids, then ranks Okie State as the superior dual team and expects to be viewed as part of a serious wrestling conversations.

Reminds me of Beano Cook explaining his 1994 college football ranking. "I think Penn State beats Nebraska by 4 touchdowns in Beaver Stadium, 3 touchdowns in a neutral site and 2 touchdowns in Lincoln. Penn State is just that much better than Nebraska, but I ranked Nebraska ahead of Penn State at the beginning of the year so I ranked them ahead of Penn State in my last ballot."

The college wrestling rankings mean little, 1 and 2 will wrestle off, but same silly as goose poop lack of any serious logic.

Penn State is a solid favorite at 125, 149, 157, 184. Slight favorite at 174, hwt. OSU favorite at 133, 141. Toss ups at 165, 197. Penn State should be the favorite to win.

Since they already wrestled at 174 and the result was decisive - Penn State is solid favorite. Slight favorite would be the correct description if discussing whether or not Hall bonuses the Okie State kid.

Yes that is the exact reason that they used to explain their ranking "we had ok st first in beginning of year and they didn't lose". Complete nonsense. Great thing that in wrestling it doesn't and never did matter

125 - PSU
133 - OSU by tech
141 - OSU
149 - PSU
157 - PSU
165 - toss up, though I lean PSU
174 - PSU
184 - PSU
197 - toss up, lean OSU
285 - PSU

Can OSU win more than 4 matches?

Yeah, the only 2 weights that Ok. State has a clear advantage is 133 and 141. PSU has a clear advantage at 125, 149, 157, and 184. Even if PSU just splits the other 4 matches that(on paper) appear to be close, then they should have this dual wrapped up before the heavyweight bout.

That's what has always bugged me about polls. The talking heads make their preseason picks based on few data points, then let their prediction outweigh any outcomes that put the prediction in doubt.

At least in wrestling teams usually get the chance to settle it on the mats.
