Now this is cool!

Looks like it might be a variation on the kind of GPS systems that are used by farmers to guide their tractors very precisely over their fields.

Just a guess. Someone may have "kicked it up" some notches, by combining the kind of computer programs used to do Laser art in wood, with a GPS system.

Very impressive design and very impressive that the team would spend the money and take the time to create this wonderful tribute.

This will be the design that many fans remember for a long time, because this is so well done, with new technology!

Fantastic job! Wonderful honor!

I heard it said that Papi is the second greatest Bo Sox in team history to only Ted Williams who likely has the #1 spot forever and Ortiz' post-season play places him at #2 in Red Sox history and in the breaking the curse of the Bambino.

A local farmer did this several years ago with one of his corn fields. He linked the combine GPS to a pic of the county's seal. Basically, the combine became the printer head. Now you can see it on google earth.

Was wondering about the detail and how they did it.

Here's a guess.

They set up a mower to run straight parallel lines for mowing, controlled via GPS. Then they fire up that bad boy and let it start to mow some grass.

As the mower moves ahead, the computer signals when the blade is engaged and when it is idle, based upon the pattern.

As long as they know the length of grass for the mowed and unmowed areas, that will create an image in the stands, they are good to go.

When will they do this for Joe at Beaver Stadium?
I think they should do this with the likenesses of our favorite BOT members and temporary presidents in the cow pastures. They could raise money for THON by taking bets on whose face will get plopped on the most in a specified month.
