@Thomas Frank Carr @David Eckert-BWI Staff are smart, but young.. they lack the overall dark grey world view any seasoned PSU fan knows. There is a reason we constantly beat Wisconsin.. they are built to win the west. With TOP (Time of Possession) and game manager QBs. Problem 1) you better win the turnover battle 2) it doesn't work against PSU, OSU, or MSU, because they got athletes on the edges Wisconsin can't even pretend to run with. Like a real analyst I look at everything a kid or team can't do, if there are 10 boxes I want to know the 1 (Alabama) to 6 (Illinois) that the team or player doesn't check... you might say it's a bit nihilistic.
Wisconsin made a crucial error, they got greedy and went for a real QB and dumped their game manager. They still would lose to PSU, MSU, and PSU regardless (let's use irregardless in homage to Indinia)... but now they will lose other games that they wouldn't have lost before. They are DESCENDING, Chryst is nothing but a puppet for Barry Alvarez.. the last guy left because he wanted no part of Alvarez micromanaging him.
1) Paul Chryst is a MESS.. his presser was epic. Props to TFC for pointing out before me (an stealing my thunder) what a punk move that was on the targeting. We were a 2nd used timeout from rich-white-kid-social-justice protestors from Madison storming the field to secure the targeting call/cheap first down that Wisconsin received.
2) Wisconsin's entire D scheme is throwing their front 9 at inferior teams with no edge speed. Leonard is not a genius, he would lose 3 games minimum in the east every year. Its time to rebalance the league BTW.
3) Stout was player of the game hands down despite the horrendous place kicking, best punting game I've ever seen.. the first punt may have been the shortest, but it was the best. The BIG refs need to revisit the punt halo rule. Maybe it should be reviewable? His kickoffs were money as well.
4) Turns out Brooks didn't suck, he was trying to cover up for how awful the other backers were. Luketa played well, but fits the hybrid well much better.. he has little lateral quickness and suffers in space. He did ok at LB, but not near what Brooks was doing.
5) Clifford played fine, avoiding mistakes early was the most he could do. He's gotta be more accurate deep, will cost us eventually. If we completed that TE middle route and avoid the early motion penalty we prob have 10 more points. TE's will be involved a lot vs Ball State to ease the burden on Dotson... also polishing the offense.
6) The safety's are good and coached up, including the guys who filled in for Brisker. I tend to frown on JC guys, but JC guys earn ships by being ballhawks, something that PSU has always lacked in the modern era. Corner play was good, Kalen King might have more confidence than Porter or Fields already LOLZ. Brisker and King are 2 guys who would command snaps at Bama or Georgia.
7) It wasn't just the OL.. Cane had some cobwebs to shake off early as well. Parker Washington is invaluable, he is a tailback once he takes a screen. Good to see KLS make a big play.. but then he dropped a crucial ball right after. It's all mental at this point.
8) Didn't see the film, but I would guess PSU chipped more with the TE's in the 2nd half an and adjustment.
9) Decent clock management. Yurcich seems to see the field well despite being on the sidelines. The key, Cliff at least knew where to look and WHEN NOT TO THROW.. they will dial this in and Cliff will be good. It was so bad last year the Cliff questioned his reads and eyes... he looked.. well he looked like Graham Mertz does now.
10) Special Teams was groovy, the was the FSU reject gunning on punts.. making a name for himself. Some horrible officiating.. being penalized for great execution feels like injustice.. should we assemble?
I'll do non PSU write up later.
