Shocking there was no thread on this game. The huddled masses have been told from high that it was the championship game as these are the two best teams and the winner would be hands on gave to win it all.

Could it be because these were the only two teams that hung a loss on us? Even if you hate the Buckeyes you could root for a duck rematch.

So I missed the game due to family events. Since one the two princelings won I am sure it will be replayed 17 times in the next ten days. But for some unexplainable reason I am curious as the opinion of our esteemed board.

Heard it was quite the beat down. Going out on a limb to assume we win next week…..can they be beat? Did Howard take a giant leap forward?

What say you?

Also, I thought Dillon should have start running, he had open alleys that might have changed the game.

I didn't do anything--I talked football the whole time

With regard to the “out on a limb” statement, I believe we are better than both Georgia and Notre Dame…. If Carter plays and is at or near 100% ….and we will win. If he doesn’t play, I like our chances much less.
—With regard to Howard : he’s been very good all year. If there has been any massive improvement by him, I believe it’s largely a function of a solid/improving O-line and the officials propensity to ignore obvious holding/tackling.
—At their best, OSU has the best team in the country. JMO

The extra week is killing the top seeds. It's already tough not playing for almost a month, but the first game they play is against a top 10 team who has a chance to knock the rust off a week prior. Remember the old addage - the most improvement occurs between weeks 1 and 2.

They good!

I think in retrospect Oregon was a semi-fraud. They were a legit top 10 team but not a top 5 team. They were lucky to get by Ohio State at home when Ohio State was sorting through OL problems and didn't have their passing game. Oregon is not great up front defensively -- PSU exposed that in the 2nd half of the conf. when it ran at will on the Oregon D, and Ohio State not only had an OL that could handle them, Ohio State also had better athletes than PSU in the secondary and could shut down Oregon's pass game.

I was glad to see Oregon unmasked -- Dan Lanning is not quite the genius he was made out to be. The only really superb player on the Oregon team is Dillon Gabriel -- he is a tough, wily quarterback, a Stabler/Staubauch type who just finds a way to make plays under pressure. He was the only thing Oregon had going for them yesterday.

Easy - Brian Hartline
Coaching is part of it but look at the list:

Marvin Harrison, Garrett Wilson, Terry McLaurin, Chris Olave, Jaxson Smith-Ngiba in the league now as a start. Going back further it you have Joey Galloway, Terry Glenn, David Boston, Santonio Holmes, and Micheal Jenkins to name a few. They probably have at least two on the roster right now. All pretty high level as well.

I tend to agree that Oregon got exposed and was somewhat overrated or as you say a "semi fraud".

Their defense was really lousy in that first half. Pathetically bad. Yes Ohio State is a great team but that was a joke. Smith's first TD catch was like they were playing some lame ass MAC school. Then Smith was open again by like 10 yards for a long TD. Henderson goes for like 70 untouched. Yes I get it. Ohio State is really, really good. That Smith is a total NFL top 5 pick. But it should not have been that easy and won't be the rest of the way. I hope this makes them overconfident. I think Texas can give them a game and so can we.

Agree, they have a history of great WRs - no doubt - not arguing with you.

But I read an article on OSU's Eleven Warriors site around a year ago that said that many of those WRs that played for Hartline were - and are - in awe of him as he's still only 38 and possesses many of his NFL WR skills (starred with the Dolphins). With Hartline, it's kind of like "do what I show you" not what I tell you to do and those young kids love it.

I think Hartline will eventually end up being the HC at OSU (his alma mater) after Day returns to the NFL. Well, him or Mike Vrabel

Being a Northwestern grad, I'd absolutely love to see a PSU-OSU final - assuring another B1G NC. PSU can definitely win that game.

If you visit the SEC boards, they hate that the recent B1G dominance (Michigan last year's NC). Plus, the B1G owns a 3-1 mark against them this year in the Playoffs and Bowl games. The B1G now has 52 % of the national TV markets in their areas. It's eating at those Southern - SEC people

A PSU vs OSU final would be incredible. Depending on how we look and they look in the semis I'm guessing they would be about a 3-4 point favorite.

“Out on a limb” was fear of bringing down the Wrath of Franklin because right now it should just be “ND/Ge! ND/Ge! ND/Ge! ND/Ge!”

“No talk of natty game allowed!”

Which is what I predicted when others were saying the bye was huge advantage. And having ten days between games helps.

The only downside to playing the first round is serious injury to a key player. Don’t know if any team that suffered such in the first round but may have.

Let us not minimize the BIG 10 dominance over the SEC.
Is the BIG not 4-1 Vs the SEC in Playoff/bowl games?

Wins Vs Bama / S. Carolina / Tenn / TAMU

Only loss was Iowa to ranked Mizzo, and that was a tight one.

Oops. Missed one. B1G is kicking butt

Ohio State boat-raced them in every phase. Howard played an outstanding game. Three or four touchdown passes of over 40 yds, two of those to "man-child" WR Jeremiah Smith who had over 100 receiving yards in the first quarter. Their running game also cut loose.
OSU defense dominated and kept Oregon QB Gabriel flustered and controlled the whole first half as OSU built a 34-8 first half lead.
The OSU team in that game looked like everyone thought they would be based on their talent and depth. They seemed totally focused. Total domination in every phase.
It will be hard for Texas to beat them if they play the way they did yesterday.

If Ohio State beats Texas and we beat Georgia--that turns the narrative
If those things don't happen--who really cares if we win a title

What is the NIL budget for Texas this year? I read the QB's alone are 4-8 million.
In value---I think we have to begin to accept that only a handful of people (Arch, Mini-Prime, Livvy Dunne, etc) are truly getting millions in cash. No one is getting 4-8M. Ewers has "a total value of 2.2M" which means he might be getting a 750k-1M. Arch was tied with Hunter at 3.1M but both have huge insurance policies so I'm not sure the "value" they add.
Livvy Dunne is getting straight cash but she's also working for her money

I have to believe those Texas teams (Texas and TAMU) have even more money involved - they just don't let those figures out
Penn State, Michigan, Georgia and LSU too
There's a ton of "value" being spent--some just hide it better. Helps when you aren't chasing everyone in the portal

My point is many are on OSU for their reported 20M NIL budget. The problem is I have not heard of anyone else's budget. It is impossible to put into perspective and judge. I will say that if OSU is not already outspent by others, it will be in the future.

Does it bother you that people say that? I'm not being a dick--that's a good thing that you're outspending others--you should be. That's how to contend in this era.
Penn State, despite what anyone says, is spending a ton too but if Ohio State has donors and NIL participants willing to spend that should be something of pride for Ohio State

Only that the implication is OSU is to trying to buy a Natty. Maybe they are, there is so little info who knows? I am a big Guardians fan. They are a great organization but cannot get past teams like the Yankees. There is a reason for that. I use that as a reference point.
