Then why did they rank us 8th last week?

Oh. They needed leverage to get us into whatever bowl was desired.

Now, 2 Big 10 teams in the playoff?

Put us wherever. Shoe in for the Rose now.

It's a very illegitimate process. I'm just glad they didn't buckle to Bama. On the field matters, otherwise let's pull the handful of favorites every year and not even have them play the regular season.

I still think Bama is better than TCU and I think that was proven on the field
The problem is many fans haven't watched TCU more than for a few minutes this year until yesterday. Michigan might beat them by 40
Not that it really matters but disappointing we didn't finish in the top 10

To play devils advocate, our wins are mostly hot garbage. Utah has three (four if you include the USC rematch) wins better than our 10 and another (San Diego State) better than 8. If you are going to make this a metrics game, every team ahead of us has played better against stronger schedules than we have. All have at least one (most multiple) win better than any of ours and played more difficult schedules. Most also didn't have an uncompetitive loss on their resume either.

For those that think it's about rewarding teams playing in CCG explain Ohio State Bama and Tennessee at 4-6

If I had to bet, I'd bet Bama over anybody but UGA. And honestly, with 3 weeks to prepare, I'd be a coin flip on that one.

Bama has brand bias. They instill "oh, they are tough". They didn't play tough this year. Even by your resume metrics, TCU has a better resume (TV showed it last night). You saying Bama is better is simply because they have Saban and their recruits.

Should that outweigh results on the field? Even Bamas best wins are inflated by SEC bias. Bama is identical to Penn State this year. Lost to the teams ranked ahead. Beat the others. Their others are just "ranked".

If you think USC and Oregon State are actually good I guess.

Utah has 3 losses. No team with more than 1 loss gets into the 4 team playoff. That is the unwritten rule.
And PSU fans should know that better than anyone. If there ever was a multi-loss team deserving of getting into the Playoffs, it was 2016 PSU. It just isn't happening if there are 4 or more major CF schools left out there with one loss or less

The only thing that really matters with this poll right now are the top 4. But, when the expanded format comes, those 5-11 (or 12 if the G5 has a good team) positions will matter. Look at the complaining already in this thread. Think of what Washington would be saying, or if some of these 3-loss conference champs hadn't won (bringing Oregon, FSU, etc. into the mix). Going to be way more complaining.

Btw, PSU is #7 in coaches and #9 in AP. They are the ones that will do a ranking after the bowl games.

I just don't get why TCU is ranked ahead of oh-high-ya. All year TCU skimmed by winning close games because their defense is poor. Then TCU loses to a 3 loss team. Whereas Oh-high-ya's only loss was to the #2 team, an unbeaten team. Seems like a no brainer that TCU should be the lowest ranked 1 loss team.

I also don't get why USC is ranked ahead of PSU in the AP poll. USC clearly has a poor defense, and their offense was handled by and they lost to a 3 loss Utah team. Whereas PSU's only losses were to 2 of the top 3 teams in college football. One of which PSU outplayed other than giving them the game with turnovers in the 4th quarter.

I feel the same way regarding Tennesse being ranked ahead of PSU in any poll as UT lost bad at the end of the season to USC-south which is a 4 loss team.

When you get down to it PSU has a better resume than any team outside of Bama who lost close to two very good teams, with the cluesless AP actually ranking 3 loss Utah ahead of PSU. Yep Utah looked good, mainly because USC was over rated.

PSU needs to get Olu back healthy and hopefully some other NFL bound players such as Mustipher go all in to play in the Rose Bowl and stomp USC.

If you go to the Georgia boards, they're asking the same question about the OSU-TCU rankings. Many are not at all happy

The committee will say they did not worry about a rematch of the first round of the playoff, but that is why TCU stayed 3 and OSU 4.

17 million watched Michigan vs OSU. If they both meet in the title game, yes, big ratings.

#3 and #4 have pretty consistently been ranked in an order to avoid rematches in the first round of the playoff. Even if the committee says that’s not a factor, the actions suggest otherwise.

Reward the crappy Big 12 and punish the team that lost to two playoff teams and was leading those games into the 2nd half against both.
Terrific.

The CFP has simple criteria: be a power 5 team and lose fewer games than other teams. Whether that is a good set of criteria can be debated but at least they are consistent. Any team should know going in that losing 2 or more games will exclude you.

The crime would have been letting Bama (or Tenn, etc) in instead of TCU and throwing out the previous structure.

TCU and Ohio State are both 1 loss non conference champs. Ohio State would be favored by 7 1/2 against them if they played today. TCU plays in a much inferior conference. Ohio State lost to arguably the best team in the country. Ohio State would not have lost a game if their team today played in the Big 12. Explain why they should be ranked behind TCU? Because of a TV matchup? Seems like a good reason.

A) because TCU's loss was "better" than OSU's loss.
B) because 12-1 > 11-1.
C) because TCU was so far ahead of OSU last week, that their OT loss didn't drop them enough for the Buckeyes to pass.

OSU may be a better team than TCU, but they didn't show that on the field when they had the opportunity.

Well ESPN just did a segment about how it's about rewarding CCG but I'm sure they're wrong and you're right.

Dude, losing to Michigan and Kansas State are like really different things. Examine TCU's schedule they were about 5 plays away from being 7-5. They nearly lost to Kansas, Oklahoma St, SMU, WVU, Texas Tech, Texas & Baylor.

It isn't just a simple power rating. If they only were considered with how good a team "could be" if they played their best, then Texas would be top six.

And losing by 3 in OT on a neutral field is not the same as losing by 22 at home.

The recent rankings taking lots of optimism I had for a playoff and shredding it. These conf championship games are problematic and going to be a huge issue. We almost went from being ranked 8 and hosting a playoff game to one upset away from out of the playoff. Those games need to be done with or specific criteria declared around them. Adding another data point to some but not all teams is so stupid

Multiple bad teams took TCU to the wire this year. Michigan beat Ohio State on the road the same way Ohio State beat Penn State on the road. It was a very competitive game until a couple plays in the 4th quarter. Let's not pretend Michigan dominated Ohio State, they didn't, it was 24-20 in the 4th quarter.
