Official Georgia Michigan TCU and Ohio State

It isn't just a simple power rating. If they only were considered with how good a team "could be" if they played their best, then Texas would be top six.

And losing by 3 in OT on a neutral field is not the same as losing by 22 at home.
It's 18 miles from their campus. Don't pretend it was a neutral site

Multiple bad teams took TCU to the wire this year. Michigan beat Ohio State on the road the same way Ohio State beat Penn State on the road. It was a very competitive game until a couple plays in the 4th quarter. Let's not pretend Michigan dominated Ohio State, they didn't, it was 24-20 in the 4th quarter.

Ohio State outplayed Michigan in the first half of that game, but only led 20-17. Michigan DOMINATED Ohio State in the second half of that game. Outscoring a team 28-3 in a half is a thorough ass whooping.

And the committee seems to agree. TCU 3rd, OSU 4th.

Dude, losing to Michigan and Kansas State are like really different things. Examine TCU's schedule they were about 5 plays away from being 7-5. They nearly lost to Kansas, Oklahoma St, SMU, WVU, Texas Tech, Texas & Baylor.
Bottom line, you’re better off being in a weak conference than a strong one.

I still think Bama is better than TCU and I think that was proven on the field
The problem is many fans haven't watched TCU more than for a few minutes this year until yesterday. Michigan might beat them by 40
Not that it really matters but disappointing we didn't finish in the top 10
The rankings seem to reek of politics. They certainly aren't about which team is really better. If so, Alabama would likely have gotten a bid. If there was a 12 team playoff this year, I bet the experts who set odds would have Georgia as the favorite and Alabama as the number 2 seed. Just my opinion. In terms of player talent, Alabama still has to be near the top. Alabama lost 2 fluky games. They were very close to being undefeated.

They were just as close to having 5 losses as they were to being undefeated.

Absolutely, since the biggest criteria to getting in is having few (ie 0 or 1) losses. Playing tougher competition would mostly help to separate teams with the same records.

With the expanded playoff there might actually be more emphasis on better schedules though. There’s going to be a bunch of 2-4 loss teams on the margin that will need to be compared most years for the final spots.

The recent rankings taking lots of optimism I had for a playoff and shredding it. These conf championship games are problematic and going to be a huge issue. We almost went from being ranked 8 and hosting a playoff game to one upset away from out of the playoff. Those games need to be done with or specific criteria declared around them. Adding another data point to some but not all teams is so stupid

Penn State was bumped up last week in case there was no upsets. Somebody wanted us in a NY6, hence they moved us up.

After the upsets allowed OSU into the playoff, they put us back behind other teams that won ccgs. Our ranking became meaningless because we are next in line for the Rose regardless.

We are who we are this year. Let's beat Utah and finish top 10. That likely starts us top 7 next year. Big close out sets up a big season.

The playoff committee does not have a post season poll. That is left for the AP (9th) & Coaches' (7th).
