with threads about depth and recruiting I looked back at our recruits since 2011 on the OL
  • 2011 (4) Alosi, Mangiro, Nowicki, Smith - 50% success, Alosi gone Nowicki left before seeing field.
  • 2012 (4) Laurent, Stanko, Gaia, Dowrey - 75% success, Laurent started to see field this year, normal progression for OL, Stanko left, Gaia and Dowrey played DL first year and half in program, but were moved to OL for depth, both seeing field and PT, this might have been considered success if G and D stayed as OL at the time, but DT depth was thin at this time.
  • 2013 (3) Hartman, Mahon, Nelson - 66% success Hartman gone, Nelson and Mahon pressed into action earliy due to need.
  • 2014 (2) Sorrell and Brosnan - Work in progress, Sorrell and Brosnan ate hoth working hard to get ready for B10 football and we may see impact next fall, a normal development time frame for OL.
  • 2015 (4) Bates, Gonzales, Jenkins, Palmer - work in progress, some say Bates will provide depth next year, Palmer is making impact already, Gonzo and Jenkins are working hard to see field next year or beyond.
So ignoring last two classes since none are playing but Palmer, there are 11 OL candidates for OL 2015/2016, four have left program w/o seeing field no impact, Smith played three years and got drafted in NFL, 6 left. OL recruits are hit or miss assuming a 60 percent success rate for the 8-10 OL needed each year for depth and injuries PSU is woefully short. Classes of 2-4 the padt 5 years should have been at least 5 if not 6. If we assume 5 average per class, that means PSU is short 8 OL recruits from past classes right now, 1 additional from 2011 and 2012 would have been huge, 2013 was good, they got lucky and have two starters out of three, no depth from third, 2014 Couple that with projected losses (40%) of the 6 from last two classes that leaves 4 potential OL, alot of pressure on program, we can expect more JUCO OL next year or two or having frosh and rs hit field early. This is where sanctions hit hardest.
