On a side note. Who likes that Daniel Jones gets the start and Saquon another chapter?

I thought I followed CFB pretty closely but I can honestly say I had never before heard of Daniel Jones until Eli was benched for him.

He was a top 6 pick in the draft and highly touted while playing at Duke. He played for Cutcliffe and was constantly compared to Eli. I'm not sure how you wouldn't have heard about him especially following his preseason performance and how much he's been discussed here the past month or so since I've joined because of Barkley. Honestly, if you didn't hear of him you don't follow FBS that closely or at least not the ACC. :)

All this said, Jones playing this year is ideal for Barkley long term but maybe not in 2019. Jones, like most rookie QBs, isn't a finished product.

Not sure why they'd turn to the kid now instead of waiting a couple of games until the Giants have all their receivers back. Who cares if Eli loses a couple more. Why not give Jones all his weapons before throwing him out there?

I'm probably alone in this but I wouldn't be shocked at all if Eli determined it was time for him to tap out.

Oh shut up you sanctimonious gas bag. As shocking as it might be, some of us have other things we like to do rather than watch Duke football and Giants preseason games. I wear it as a badge of honor that I watched about 15 seconds total of NFL preseason football this year. And that was 15 seconds too much.

Wow this seems like an overreaction. You indicated you follow college football closely but "had never heard" of the guy that went 6th overall in the draft and 3 year starter at an FBS school. There's nothing wrong with not watching Duke of the NFL preseason. Nothing at all. But to say you never heard of Daniel Jones is just stunning for someone who claims to follow college football closely. Maybe I don't know what "closely" means to you. Clearly you don't deem Duke football to be "real football".

You're right. That was an overreaction and I am sorry.

I don't remember seeing anything I paid attention to about Daniel Jones before he was drafted. He was a no name to me. I hope he works out well for Barkley's sake

Daniel Jones being picked sixth overall was, like, the story of the draft if not the offseason.

I’m a Bills fan and I was at the game on Sunday with my Bills jersey and Penn State hat. The opening drive had me totally perplexed. Loved that Saquon owned the drive but bummed the Bills looked so bad on D.

After that drive, the Giants put the ball in the air more and limited Saquon.

I couldn’t believe how many 26 jerseys there were. Clearly the fan favorite. I’m just glad they aren’t abusing his body this a team that looks so bad on both sides of the ball.

Maybe Jones is the spark they need.

What a different atmosphere compared to Saturday in State College. So many Giant fans screaming F bombs all game. They couldn’t deal with the fact that Josh Allen, Cole Beasley and the Buffalo Bills were beating them.

I follow college football closer than the average hot guy and I, too, really had little awareness of who David Jones was when the Giants’ pick was announced... pretty sure I could care less -were I so inclined

Who could forget when everyone laughed at the Giants for picking him 6th when no one else had the guy rated in the top 50.

I grew up die hard Giants fan, but am now situated in Bills land. Giants pass defense certainly made Josh Allen look pretty good. Nice crisp throws. Jury is still out on him, and the Bills, though till they meet some competition.

I’m not too far from you... did not see Grant Haley in the Giants’ backfield vs Bills last weekend, is he hurt?

Eli is probably loaded moneywise but even so, when you're pulling in about $1.25 million per week why not hang around for 14 more weeks (or 15 weeks if you include the bye)? And now it looks like that money won't come from him playing and getting beat up but rather from him standing on the sidelines. That's a pretty good deal.

I assume the $20 million or so he's getting this year is the only reason he came back this season anyway considering his skills are declining and he's obviously near the end of his football career.

Which, IMHO, is not a good thing for him long term on such a bad team.
exactly my concern- he's going to be asked to do it all, and nobody can do it all in the NFL

I really wish someone else had drafted him

I didn't pay attention to Jones at all in college. Thought it was certainly interesting that the Giants went with him but he looked damn good in the preseason. Smart kid who will be prepared when he plays. Much more mobile than Eli. Eli had a couple opportunities to make it a game on Sunday and found a way to screw it up. Saquon and Engram, the tight end, will give him some nice options. The receivers aren't the best but they have the advantage every play because eyes are always in the backfield. I despised the Giants my whole life but I'm a fan now because of Barkley. Glad OBJ is gone because I didn't like him either. I don't think the Giants are that far away from being competitive.

Anybody that claims to be a college football fan and has never heard of Daniel Jones does not follow college football that closely or stops paying attention after NYD. Daniel Jones was always mentioned in highlights of Duke games. He was the 2019 Senior Bowl MVP. He was always mentioned as a possible 1st RD draft pick before the Senior Bowl. The week before the draft word got out that the Redskins were looking to trade in front of the Giants to select Jones. I think it was a sports update on Mad Dog radio. There has also been speculation that the Denver Broncos were the team the Giants felt were looking at Jones with their 1st RD pick as they too have a connection with Cutcliff. Daniel Jones was the QB that I wanted the Giants to pick. I liked him better than Haskins and Lock. I wanted Josh Allen or Ed Oliver at 6. If Jones is your guy, you don't take the chance that he won't be there at 17. Gettleman really botched his pc. All he had to say was that they were hearing one or two other teams were also looking at Jones and they felt so strongly that Daniel was their guy that they could not take a chance to loose him even if it was misinformation.

Agree, their secondary was very weak, but I will say that I’m more optimistic about him than the last dozen or so QBs they’ve had. He missed some easy throws and took some unnecessary sacks but overall, he’s progressed well.

Hard to believe I missed those too

Yeah I haven't seen him on the field either though looking up his stats it shows he has played. Must be situational. Figured someone would have mentioned something on the board by now.

How could anyone not know about a QB who was 49th in passing yards, 72nd passer rating, 91st in yards per attempt with an amazing 2.4 TD/Int ratio. All this while playing in the mighty ACC. Move over Joe Montana.

I don't have a dog in the fight since I don't care much about nfl, but I'd figure penn state fans would understand how poor wr's could effect a QB's stats. Apparently the guys Jones was throwing to were beyond terrible at catching the ball. Here's a video compilation from some of the balls that were delivered on target but went incomplete while he was at Duke.

Yeah, because no other team has WRs who drop passes. According to this site, Jones' WRs dropped 9.2% of his passes. That would put him at 11th in the SEC for dropped passes. Jones may become a good NFL QB someday but, to act like that pick wasn't a reach is just silly.

The pick wasn't a reach. He was the best QB prospect in the draft IMO. That's what the draft is. It's opinion based on how players project. Whether or not it works only time will tell but, based on how QBs are valued, the pick made perfect sense. Ferrell at 4 was a bigger reach. Murray at 1 arguably was as well.

Jones was not the best QB prospect in the draft. Not even close. The pick was a major mistake by the Giants. They probably could have had him in the 2nd round.

There's no chance in hell he'd have been there in the second round. None. Time will prove if the Giants know more than you. QBs are very rarely sure bets (Peyton) but Jones was BY FAR the best prototypical NFL QB in this draft. I'd rather have him than Murray or Haskins (though I also like Haskins). Hell, I'd rather have him than Mayfield, Donald or Rosen but only time will prove who is right.

Jones has bust written all over him. He has limited talent and will not develop under that stiff Shurmer. Sadly, the Giants will be dumb enough to keep running him out there week after week.

Barkley's career will suffer because of it.

I completely disagree. Jones is the perfect QB for Barkley. Jones may not be great this year, most rookie QBs aren't, but they should be playing him and building for the future.

You should let Jones know how you truly feel about him. Maybe ask him to send you a lock of his hair.
