OT: All knowing board, where to stay in Altoona?

Why would anyone want to stay in Altoona? (Sorry, I have no value to add here but that is the first thing that came to mind. Hopefully, others can help

There are several decent chain hotels in Altoona if that's what you're looking for. Not sure if any are better than the next.

Marriott Courtyard, use priceline to bid.

I lived there for a year and I stayed there for my interview and my dad stayed there for all extended stays in the area.

Penn Alto, Ton and Joe's for breakfast across the street, for lunch, Texas Hot Dogs, a few blocks away. Pellys for dinner

Is there still a Texas Hots downtown? I've been to that one but didn't know it was still there. Thought the only one around was the one by the mall.

Just stayed two nights @ the Fairfield Inn (next to VAMC). It is only a year old and staff was very nice. They did tell me that rates are around $300 per night on football weekends. My rate (AAA) last few nights was $89 (plus tax). Located on Pleasant Valley Rd, right near Exit 32, I-99.

Comfort Suites in Pinecroft is a exit or two east of Altoona. Closer to State College than the other Altoona hotels. Probably make the drive to State College 5-10 minutes shorter.

Hampton Inn Altoona. Right off of I99, across the street from the mall and across the parking lot from Champs (get the Jack Ham).

meeting up with a friend,I was considering useing points, but 20,000 seems high for crappy Altoona.$89 I can handle

Are you extremely limited for time? If not, just stay in State College

Hey Delco, that's a big ass hill. Texas Hots is alive and well downtown.

That is a big hill. Had some good times in Altoona at holidays and the Summer. Same with Huntington where my dad was from. Passed through Altoona several years back. Tough times. Did have a good lunch at the Knickerbocker.
