I don't count places that I've just been for a layover in an airport.. I know some people will blow this out of the water, but it's a fun topic. I've got 11:

US
Suriname (Paramaribo.. in South America)
Saudi Arabia (Ras Al Khair)
Bahrain (Manama)
Canada (Quebec City, Montreal, Baie Comeau, Niagara Falls, Deschambault)
Domincan Republic (Punta Cana)

Mexico (Cancun)
Italy (Rome and Positano)
Croatia (Dubrovnik)
Curacao

I've been to 16 (not including US or plane layovers). Do I count East Germany when it was its own country? ;)

While I don't count airports for states, I do count them for countries. I'm physically in that country, people there speak the language, I can drink a local beer and have a local meal, I probably even have a passport stamp from them.

Just my personal preference.

I'm sure I'm missing several but I've been to about 50 countries.

Mostly for work. My employer contracts with various foreign airlines and cargo companies. We also do work for the State Department and US Millitary as well as the RAF. As I mentioned, I know I missed several, but my globe is out of date (think USSR) and many passport stamps are unreadable.

U.S.
Canada
Mexico
New Zealand
Bermuda
Dominican Republic
Chile
Romania
Bulgaria
Croatia
Serbia
Hungary
Slovakia
Czech Republic
Austria
Switzerland
Germany
France

Will add Norway, the Faroes, Iceland, and Greenland later this year.

The list gets inflated if you add all of those Caribbean islands. Excluding those:

That's 16. Add a few for the Caribbean islands and I might be up to 20.
