I may not necessarily agree with everything Coach Knight does or says, but damn you always know where you stand with him.
Always admired him and in this day of "political correctness" I find his crusty nature refreshing. On more than one occasion I used his slogan about "bury me upside down....so my critics can kiss my ass."not sure I agree with his 16 year grudge, but I certainly understand his sentiments.
IMO there never was a great coach who set out to be popular.Probably similiar to Paterno, many players 'hated' him when he was coaching them because both coaches pushed, prodded, and were tough on players to get the most out of them both on the field/court but also both Knight and Paterno held players to a higher standard outside the field. And most of those players as they got older and into the 'real world' really appreciated all the life lessons they were taught and how it helped them out and molded them into better persons.
Well, Coach Knight's main antagonist at IU, Myles Brand is dead. If Bobby wants to dance on his grave, he should call me and we'll make it a twosome.
If you played sports in the 60s you probably had a coach who grabbed you by the face mask or shoulder pads and kicked you in the ass. I never saw a coach hurt a player (with the exception of his feelings). The world has changed and we can do a thread on if it is for the better.......Coach Knight was unable or unwilling to change and as a result he became unemployable. Knight reminds me of General Patton. He certainly had many flaws and didn't fit in to a peaceful world. But, I think we were probably fortunate to have him when we needed him.

I believe Bobby and Joe had a mutual admiration.
I don't recall what else Brand did good or bad, but as president of the ncaa years ago, he cited Penn State as a model athletic program.
I think it was shortly after PSU joined the big ten and Knight was driving in the area when he decided to make a surprise visit to Paterno (don't think they had met before). I think I recall Paterno relaying that Knight mentioned that people thought he and Paterno were very much alike.

And they are nothing alike.. Joe helped kids and won with class. Knight was a bully.
Joe should have slammed the door on Knight.

Well, Joe never threw a chair onto the field, but he and Knight did have similarities. Indiana graduated their players. Knight once was very critical of Calipari much in the same way that Paterno was of Switzer and Sherill.
And they both liked Rene.
That is the guy I would want coaching my kid..

Lighten up. I was comparing personalities.Apples and oranges, Professor.
War and a voluntary basketball game? Is that what you are comparing? Come on, dude.
What you do in the heat of battle is a just a wee bit different than what you do while practicing on a basketball court, wouldn't you say?

Knight is an idiot.
Everyone should get a trophy and all scholarship
players should get equal playing time! Don't you dare yell at my child or correct him(her) when they're wrong.Praise him, pant him on the back(oops can't do that)tell him how good he is! I'm really worried about this country in 20 years, even 10 years for that matter. Is this the same attitude that made this country what it is? Pitiful, I'm just glad I played and coached when I did!

Oh, Lord. Here we go again with the "I walked to school uphill, in my bare feet, no jacket, both ways", Bullsh1t again.
In addition to what you said, your generation could also walk down the street and tell a black person, "Move, N1gger!" You could beat the sh1t put of fagg0ts and get away with it.
Your generation was also quiet about spousal abuse and child abuse. Your generation stood by and allowed it to continue.
Your generation could care less about drinking and driving, too.
Tell me again WHY your generation was so great? You could beat the sh1t out of kids playing a game and get away with it? Convinced yourself you were making men out of boys?
More like you were making sons just like their fathers: alcoholic wife beaters that would beat their kids, too, discriminate against blacks and gays, and drink and drive.
You're proud of that?
