OT: Cell Phone contact back ups

I have a samsung galaxy 5.
Verizon wireless is the carrier.
I had an issue with the Verizon wireless portal.
Go into the verizon wireless store.
They say to back everything inclusing contacts to google not the Verizon cloud.
What has been others experience as far as to where to back up?

Fuc# the cloud. It is a PUBLIC wasteland of data. Back up to your computer. Everything (literally everything) in the cloud is unprotected data.

Most phones allow you to 'export' your contacts to a file and then email it to yourself or back it up with your other 'secure stuff'.

My wife's ancient HTC One (on Verizon) and all subsequent 'smart' Android phones allow this feature. I believe you can do that from within the contacts app. Dig around a bit. Also make certain that the export file contains all the contacts. Wife had once saved contacts to the phone contacts and not her gmail contacts and I only exported the gmail ones to file.

Lesson learned.
