OT: Do you think Barkley will have a reduced role against UW?

Two reasons he should, the first being to reduce his risk of a catastrophic injury. The second, to get younger guys ready for next year.

Will he return kickoffs? Will Miles get more than his usual number of carries? I always thought that CJF let SB take kickoffs partly to boost his Housman chances.

No kickoffs. How much he plays probably depends on how the game is going. I remember Hack taking some hits and that was the end for him.

Barkley got 80% of the snaps this year at running back. Would like to see a more broad distribution for starters/backups next year.

That said, hope they give a bunch of carries to Sanders in the bowl game. Time to get him ready for the limelight.

I tend to be optimistic on such things, but I see Barkley being used extensively (not sure about Kick returns) and PSU jumping on U-W pretty good, so Barkley can wind down in the late 3rd quarter or so, and maybe be done by that time.

PSU 40 Washington 14

That's the score at the end of three then we go into a shell and win 40 to 35..

agree on both points. my guess is he gets 15-20 total touches (run/pass) and no KO's.

I hope so. Crazy for this kid to be playing in the game at all. I love him for it, but hopefully the coaches will limit him for his own good and give the next guys up some much needed experience.

I'm still hoping Barkley and Franklin decide Barkley has a "knee" and he sits out the meaningless game. But, no, he won't have a reduced role other than maybe kickoffs.

Probably in the minority, but I think it’ll be a close game and I think we’ll see Barkley until we (hopefully) take a knee.

Polk on KO, otherwise only a few play difference in usage. I think Sanders may get subbed in for a few more plays in the first half, but not any drastic difference. Hopefully the plays are all after Barkley has big gains and needs a break.

I think him returning KO's was ludicris. I think it wore him down in big games and toward the end of the season. While he is a great return man, and his return against tOSU was huge, I think we paid the price. Only part of the risk management was injuries. The other was making the kid run a 30 yard sprint to start an offensive possession after the other team scored or to start the half. You see WR's often take themselves out of games after running a deep pattern. I felt like SB was less physical toward the end of the tOSU game and until we played Nebraska.

Washington has one of the best, if not the best run defense in the country. If this should lead them to not keying on Barkley, he and McSorley will light them up.

What good rushing attack did they play against? The only one I see is Stanford and they gave up 166 yards to Love. They didn't play USC. They only played one other ranked opponent, Wash St. who is a passing team (and had several turnovers to start the game). That's not to say that Wash is a bad team. Its just that I feel like their rushing defense is really untested.

I did a poor job of making my point. Is Washington so confident in that rush defense that they see no need to key on Barkley? If so, Trace and Barkley light them up.

I think that is the key to the game. If #26 gets over 100 yards rushing, we win.

To me , aside from kickoffs maybe , ''toning it down'' is a good way to get hurt . Maybe not play like the Iowa game . When do you start saying games are meaningless? It isnt like the last game of a losing season ? I guess I dont get the whole not playing unless a previous injury , who else shouldnt play then? I am probably in a minority. I get forgoing the Sr yr for the draft but what if every current SR decides not to play in the bowl game .

I frankly think it would be the proper thing to do. Let Saquon have the start then play Miles the rest of the game.

I would like to see a few designed runs for him, especially early. Also more whip routes with the idea of getting him the ball with some space.

This game will be played like any other game. I am certain that Sa Sa wants to be involved in the game plan just like any other. He is not a Prema-donna nor wants to be treated like one. This would be a distraction. Barkley is all about team. The mind set of the team is and should be to impose their will on the Huskies. This is the FIESTA BOWL. Time to represent the best conference in college football not to have a representative in the playoffs. Ridiculous. Kick some butt, We Are The Pennsylvania State University....

I really think Barkley and his teammates like playing with each other. Last shot for them to do so in blue and white and the older guys will have the intention to finish what they started halfway through last season. 11-2 with a top 10 finish and New Year's 6 win to go along with their 11-3 top 10 conference championship season. From where these guys started to lining up on the 30th in the Fiesta Bowl is a huge accomplishment. They're going to play to win and that includes using Barkley as much as any other game.
