OT: ESPN OTL report on U of Rochester football players kidnapped, tortured

Kollias says he believes the Rochester coaching staff knew Smith was tangled up with drugs but chose to look the other way. Other players had faced harsh consequences when they violated rules, Kollias says. "Things happen, like drunk driving," he explains. "And when those things happened, usually the players were all kicked off of the team."

"The kids who were the better athletes were definitely on a longer leash," the other teammate says. "He was one of the best players on the team. He wasn't going to get kicked off the team."

I wish Bob would swing by and remind us that Penn State has a football culture problem

I remember hearing about that story. Don't remember hearing such a graphic nature of it though. Wow, frightening. Rochester, for the size town it is, has a pretty bad gang/criminal element.

That scares me a bit, as my niece is a student at Rochester Institute of Technology.... Tho currently on co-ops for the next year.

Legalize pot.

They did in many states. Still illegal to STEAL pot. Still need a license to sell. Do you think drug dealers with 8th grade educations will suddenly get degrees, licenses and open legal storefronts?

RIT is in it's own suburban cocoon in Henrietta, little risk there except for the proliferation of creepy techno-geeks ... much different than U of R's River Campus that is merely a pedestrian-bridge/a river away from the 19th Ward

That was brutal, drugs and revenge created a real disaster for that young man.

No. The problem was the coaches, University President and university police covering up the initial crimes and not informing the students about the danger. The moron police did not even put 2+2 together. It was the roommate that tied the crimes. Colleges should not even have police departments. They should have some type of financial arrangement and the college PD budget should go to the local police for additional officers and a sub station on campus. .

Rochester is a D3 football program, technically they are not on athletic scholarship. Most people at D3 schools, especially private ones are on some kind of scholarship.
and that scholarship, in many cases is based on financial need of the parent, although there are some academic merit scholarships.

Yeah, RIT students are more likely to send you a Ted Kaczynski mail bomb than cut you with a hedge clipper.

I think they will have no customers. Do you see a lot of people being shot over illegal booze?

Not a problem ... RIT doesn't have a football team. Kidding aside, though UofR and RIT are close distance wise RIT is very isolated and not near the city. Not saying you can't get into

Yep ... although the campuses are just a few miles apart it's a totally different environment and clientele.

Recall reading that the last time RIT offered football they was coached by Tom Coughlin
