Browns receiver Terrelle Pryor does not seem to be a popular guy among his colleagues in the NFL.

Bengals cornerback Adam Jones ripped Pryor both before and after covering him this month. Players on the Giants ripped Pryor both before and after covering him last month. And Vikings guard Alex Boone, a college teammate of Pryor’s, said before this season that he was surprised Pryor was still in the NFL, adding, “I hated everything about him.”

Now we can add former NFL receiver Brian Hartline, who played with Pryor both at Ohio State and on the Browns, who said on Columbus radio station 105.7 The Zone that the Browns would be making a big mistake if they signed Pryor to a No. 1 receiver contract this offseason.

“If I’m building a team, what is [Pryor]?” Hartline said, via Ohio.com. “Is he my No. 1? God, I hope not because let’s put it this way: For me, I want a guy day in and day out I know what I’m getting. You don’t know what you’re going to get. You don’t know who’s going to show up. You don’t know if he’s going to get in trouble. You don’t know if he’s going to smart off. I need stability. That’s so more important to me. I need a guy that runs routes. I need stability. I need constant production. Is he a No. 2? OK, yeah. I mean maybe. He kind of disappeared the last couple weeks. So I’m very apprehensive as a Cleveland Browns guy to give out a contract. Listen, you had one year. You’re a flash in the pan. You’re trying to tell me with a guy that had suspect personality characteristics, I’m going to go ahead and hand you a bunch of money but you’re going to work harder? Uh, I think I’m going to bet against that if I’m a betting man.”

Pryor is the Browns’ leader this season in catches (67), yards (877) and touchdowns (four), but Hartline says that doesn’t make Pryor a great player.

“At no point is he being dominant,” Hartline said. “I’m not paying a guy off of one year. I’m wishing him well, and I’m going to go ahead and go build something else because I’m not sure Terrelle Pryor is a building block.”

It’s unclear what it is about Pryor that causes so many NFL players to have such a negative reaction to him. But a whole lot of players dislike him.

Diva and entitled. Charlie Batch must have felt like he was pushing a tractor trailer up 7 mile mountain on 322 trying to mentor him.

I thought the Eagles might make a play for him over Desean, but there are probably more red flags with TP compared to Desean. And that is saying something!!

Let's see. A lot of players don't like him, but it's not clear why. Does it really have to be?

I heard yesterday that they want both. Of course that's the media's take on it which we know all too well how stupid they are.

Bullet well dodged by PSU back then I guess! Hate cancers like those in a locker room!

I think Pryor had a bit of growing up to do coming out of high school, and I don't think he did much of it while he was at Ohio State. And, because of the circumstances and the trouble he got the program into there, I don't blame his former teammates if Pryor left a sour taste in their mouths. Many of those quotes seem to be coming from guys whose opinion of Pryor was shaped as college teammates, so I both don't blame them for holding a bit of a personal grudge - but also take it with a grain of salt as to the player he is today.

It does appear that he's a more mature player now, and I think those few years out of the league showed him that his immense talent isn't worth much without maturity and work ethic. He seems to be on a better path now - but his reputation is probably going to follow him.

Privileged athlete all his life. Never had to work for anything so he now doesn't know or understand how to work to improve

I guess this guy hasn't met most of the league's number one receivers:

Being overrated and a douchebag doesn't play well in a locker room.

(It's also no way to go through life, son.)

I give Dr. Spanier credit for stopping the sale of these t-shirts during the week prior to the game with OSU. Class, to have an unfortunate situation the previous year, and possibly have our students/fans turn it into a folly.

Fortunately for me, I asked my grandson to get me a "T" but the shirts were taken off sale. I'd still feel foolish today if I had worn this shirt to the game. I guess immaturity can occasionally strike when one is into the 60's. :(

Even more, you don't suppose that some of Hartline's negative feelings towards Pryor (notwithstanding the trouble Pryor caused for Hartline's alma mater and coach) have anything to do with the fact that Hartline was ultimately cut by the Browns earlier this year in favor of Pryor, do you?

well we don't know , Harline as a vested vet whose salary was guaranteed if he is on the opening day roster, as opposed to TP who was not guaranteed anything, and I would guess was a cheaper option. So with Cleveland doing a money ball experiment, cheaper is always better. so was he cut in favor of Pryor abilities or because the money is cheaper with TP?

Well, if you're Brian Hartline, do you really care about whether the Browns cut you in favor of Pryor because of his talent or because of the dollars? The fact is that you're out of a job and the other guy took your spot. And if you already don't like the other guy for what he did to your coach and alma mater, let's just say I'm going to take your criticism with a grain or two of salt.

okay then how to you square it with Boone? And Pacman never played with TP but he certainly had a lot to say about him, there are others as well.

Pryor thought he was the best thing to happen to Jeannette City since the glass factories and in a lot of ways was treated as such. Since Cleveland is so bad its probably more of the same.

I read not too long ago that he didn't want to play for the Steelers because of the pressure but he wasn't going to be successful at QB anywhere.
