Massimino, now an 82-year-old cancer survivor who is still coaching at NAIA school Keiser University in West Palm Beach, Florida, is a finalist for the first time. His Hall of Fame hopes have been backed by plenty of current and former coaches in recent months -- including current Villanova coach Jay Wright, who presented Massimino with a championship ring from the Wildcats' 2016 NCAA title.

"Some days, we do take him for granted," Keiser guard Andrija Sarenac said. "But then you see him on TV so much, you see all these videos made about him, the movies about Villanova and everything, and it just hits you. You realize that he's a legend. I mean, your coach is a walking legend. With the energy and everything he comes in with, it's inspiring."

Great coach but don't like him for 2 reasons:

1. Tried to kill the Big 5
2. Worst abuser of the overabundance of time outs in the college game. He'd routinely call time out down by 12 or so wth 10 seconds left.

Still, it's ridiculous he's not in the HOF

Usually don't pay attention to such things...but I am happy for Coach Mass! Great guy...
OT, but I keep forgetting that Villanova has played all season without Phil Booth (you and I were commenting on the NCAA stupidly ruling Spellman ineligible).

How about it... going into the game today without Darryl Reynolds, I was worried. I should know better... Brunson is the player of the year. The transition from Arch has been unbelievable! And if Jenkins has in fact worked his way out of his shooting slump, I like the way things are going. Tough finish with Butler, Creighton and G'town. But Big East champs 4 years running....wow!

I'm afraid that Brunson is playing his way into the NBA next year. That's very good for us in the short term:).
Have you checked out video of Archbishop Woods's Colin Gillespie, the PG signee for next season? He put 42pts. on Neumann- Goretti with Kentucky PG signee Quade Green and our Cosby-Roundtree.

I have seen video of Gillespie...I continue to be optimistic for the future with potentially healthy Booth, Spellman, returning core, Samuels and Rountree-Cosby. Coach Wright doesn't miss a beat. It will be interesting to see how the home game schedule with no Pavilion impacts them next year.

His move would be akin to our move in going to the big ten wouldn't it? Rollie had to do it in my opinion. Look where they are and look where the rest of the big 5 are. I understand your point completely and believe me I love the Big 5 more than anything but things change and it was the right thing to do for Villanova and that has to be a coach and AD's main concern.

Rollie was all about Rollie and way too frequently stiffed the common hard working people. I heard from more than one place in Wayne, Villanova, and surrounding towns that in his day Rollie was the worst tipper you could imagine and that he treated service personnel poorly.

Colin's a four year player. He's a late bloomer who's just coming into his own.

Well, since you brought it up, I heard the same thing, but in Philly -- being a pain in the ass at restaurants.

That didn't keep Micky Mantle out of Cooperstown

I knew a fellow who worked some Big East games when Rollie was at Villanova. He called a foul on a Villanova player and Rollie was all over him. During the shooting of the foul shots he was non stop. As my friend started up the court on the change of possession, as he ran past Rollie he said; "if you liked that one, wait 'til you see the next one."

Rollie immediately shut up.

Rollie should be in already, especially since he had to coach at least one "cocaine head", to the trophy.

College basketball refs are the worst. The good ones suck.
