OT: Have been on a Disney Cruise with the family...

Disney Cruise Pro-tip: Not sure if this is policy at all Disney properties, but on the ship while participating in a cognac tasting (on this most recent cruise), I was told by the Disney employee conducting the tasting about their policy concerning Remy Martin Louis XIII cognac. Specifically, if you are the person to finish the bottle, they will give it to you (it's Baccarat crystal worth about $800). If you have one of these bottles, you can supposedly send to Remy Martin in France for a refill at a discounted rate. A pour of Remy Martin XIII I believe was around $200 for 2 oz. on the cruise.

Beautiful bottle, especially when filled to the top at a discount. Are you sure they give out the baccarat crystal bottle?

I believe they’d give the bottle. But not all Louis VIII bottles are the same, even if they look like it. Bartender/host may have been mistaken and, as top shelf as we agree DCL is is surprising for several reasons. Among others, they could reuse it themselves in numerous ways, they have plenty of contact with Remy Martin.

Which DCL trip did you take this time? We haven’t done it again since Disney day at sea in 2018.

It was the Magic again out of Miami. The cognac host was very knowledgeable and experienced and made it clear the bottle they give is for the Louis XIII that retails for about $4,000 when full (crystal bottle worth about $800). He also mentioned how the Disney Cruise ships, one of which is the Magic, has the rare $40,000 Louis XIII bottle as well (they have two of them). I believe they sold one of them to someone from Saudi Arabia.

years ago, I was at the hotel across from GM's HQ in Detroit. I went to dinner with a (married) coworker. When we got back to the hotel, there was a woman at the bar sitting by herself. My co-worker struck up a conversation then asked if he could buy her a drink. She said sure and ordered something from the bartender. He got out a key, unlocked a little door, and pulled out that bottle. He poured her a drink and turned to my co-worker and said "that will be $85, would you like to pay it here or should I bill it to your room?" I laughed my butt off.

Karma!

Good stuff. 4000 would be a great price. I saw something around 4K online and that might have been it. Also saw several closer to 7K. Hats off to you for having that conversation. I have some cognacs in my closet but never got into the same area code as what you’re talking.

Me either. It was volunteered information as part of the tasting (was in a group setting). It was a vertical tasting with two XOs (and the Hennessy was my favorite).

Currently docked in Key West - fourth day of a five day cruise. Disney is baller - their bars have the best stuff; even bottles of Van Winkle. Anyway, I haven’t had a lot of time but did a rum tasting and caught Black Panther in the on board theater - most of the time I’ve been wrangling my 17 month year old son. Pro tip: do not do a cruise with a 17 month old.

Anyway, had a pretty good time and would recommend Disney to anyone (even those without kids) - everything is top notch. I will say we did walk around Key West this morning and I would probably never voluntarily go back - grungy and felt like one big dirty bar/head shop. Hemingway’s house was cool though.

Enjoy! I’m an Oceania guy. Did 16 days from Tahiti to LA with premium bar package gift from travel agent. 4 Hawaiian islands after 4 French Polynesian islands. Incredible dining About 40 percent Brits and older crowd but great time....Liquor bar without package would have been $5000 NONSTOP

Did the “land and sea “ 15 years ago with two kids and after paying $12.00 for my first Budweiser (yes, I drink a lot of beer), stopped at our first port of call and while everyone was bringing on trinkets, we smuggled in 2 cases of beer. We also couldn’t stay at their “private island” as the seas were too rough to get in. All in all a great trip, but cash was flowing like a waterfall!!!!

17 mos old? Just tell the wife to pop a titty in his mouth. Who needs a cruise?

Disney is certainly a premium line and is worlds better than Celebrity.

Your view of premium is just different from others.

And I've been to all the islands... I didn't say they didn't have islands I said Disney's is the best.

Here's a list of things that make Disney premium:

1, The staterooms are much better
2. The food is much better.
3. The entertainment is world class.
4. The ship is better, cleaner.
5. The service is better.

I guess there are other things that make a cruise... but all are better on Disney.

Is the caviar included in the price? Try Seabourn and leave the kids at home.

Currently on a nine day Royal Caribbean cruise with in laws - 12 total including six kids under 7. FIL paid the bill (but we sprung for the deluxe drink package). Worlds different than Disney - it’s like a frat party/family reunion at sea with nowhere near enough seats for everyone. We did watch the WC at pool level but someone had enough of the two for one Bud specials to puke in the pool this cancelling the highly anticipated belly flop contest. Will have more thoughts later...

I wouldn’t have thought you were a Bud man...

Premium cruise lines are Seabourn, Silverseas, Regent, and maybe Windjammer, or even maybe Cunard if you book a Princess Grill or Queens Grill Suite. The others you mentioned don’t measure up. The last thing I want to see (or hear) on a cruise are someone else’s kids. I want caviar free on request, a private butler, a Thomas Keller menu, cocktails, champagnes and wines included, and an enforced dress code. Mickey Mouse? No thanks.

Can laugh at Mickey all you want, but they have more money and master sommeliers than those other companies combined. They know their audience - Keller isn’t anywhere near the draw he used to be.

We just got off a 4 night Disney Cruise (Dream) on Friday. We have a 4 year old and a 2 year old who absolutely loved it.

We had one day in Nassau, one day at Sea, and one day at Castaway Cay. I wish we would have spent all three days at Castaway Cay. What a great place to spend a day. The beaches, waterslides, biking, food, etc. were all great at CC.

A couple of thoughts:
1. The food and entertainment were fantastic
2. The Cruise Line Navigator App is great
3. I wouldn't recommend going with a kid two years old or younger for several reasons (They can't go to the kids club with their older siblings and they can't go in the pools if not potty trained.
did the same cruise about 6 years ago with the grand kids, daughter & s-i-l. did it as a test to see if the gks would like cruising. we did the park first, then the cruise. snorkeled in nassau & very much enjoyed castaway cay. last day of cruise at breakfast, our grandson says, hey, pa, can we do this again....only longer? the next year we did another disney cruise to alaska for seven days. kids got to pick a trip at each stop(whale watching, visited a dog sled breeding farm and took a sled ride(wheels) pulled by their dogs, among others). it's a great cruise line for kids, and adults can find a lot to do, as well. would highly recommend it. they've been on a cruise(not all disney) almost every year since.
