I don't gamble, strip clubs aren't my thing, and I'm going to the Cubs game on Saturday so those can be crossed off the list. My hotel is near O'Haire, with no rental car but a hotel shuttle. Let me hear what ideas you guys have?

You could just sit traffic like everyone else and then smile about it and pretend that the windy city is loads of fun.....

Or, if you are on an expense account, go to Shaws and run up a $150 dinner tab. Then if you haven't been up there, go up to the top of the John Hancock building just before dusk. Check out the skyline and then as it gets dark it's just as interesting. Since it's flat the roads and lights stretch out as far as you can see in a grid of straight lines.
Or, you could just drive around, make a few wrong turns and end up in the hood. Pretty easy to get there as it occupies a pretty far reaching area. If we don't hear from you again we'll know that you have ventured into the land of gun control, the poster child city/state for why gun control only removes the guns from the law abiding citizens.....

Let us know what you really do.

Vito's & Nick's pizza - stellar. (Thin, not CHI style)

Damn - gotta bring the basset hound in before he catches a whiff of you, the wind's from the south!

Would meet you for dinner except 1) I already have plans and 2) I'm not that much fun!

Seriously, your hotel staff can direct you, there's a new entertainment area in Rosemont, right by O'Hare, you might try that out, getting decent reviews.

Take the train from OHare into the city and, find a reputable Audio-Visual store and ask them the following:
  • Where should I locate the TV in my basement?
  • Where should I find "fun" in the Windy City?

There's an old WWII German sub you can check out.

I might be able to get a hall pass to meet up and talk PSU and York County.

Looks like rain in the forecast, or I'd recommend taking the Blue Line into Bucktown (Uber back, the train gets a little messy at night). There you can pick out a restaurant and hit a few spots on foot for drinks. Piece for pizza and beer is a safe choice, but it's not fine dining.

There are tons of options in many neighborhoods - it's all about what you like. Many of the trendier eateries are crowded, but you can say you were there.

I agree with the Second City & The Museum of Science & Industry (where the UBoat lives). recommendations. If you go to Second City, get your tickets in advance. The Art Institute is also one of my faves. They have some classics I'm sure you would recognize.

I'm going to the Cubs/Phillies game, but it's a day game. [Edit: Whoops, just saw that you are going Saturday.]

If you go to the mile
Eat at Purple pig.
Buddy Guys for Blues.
Uber back to hotel

Or, take Blue line to Logan Square (only like 7 stops).
Cocktails at http://billy-sunday.com/
Dinner at http://lulacafe.com/ or http://www.longmanandeagle.com/

If you feel the need to stay near ORD, there are a few Portillo's locations for an Italian Beef

Re: Ditka's - yes, the pork chop is good, very good, but the atmosphere is pretty lame to me.

Boy, that sounds like part of an old Penthouse forum.

There was a bar I went to in Chicago many years ago with a pretty cool vibe. When the phone behind the bar rang, one of the patrons said "If that's for me, I'm not here." I don't remember the name of the place. Or even which neighborhood it was in. I guess this is not very useful advice. Or even an interesting story.
