In 2005 Nova lost by 1 point to #1 UNC in sweet 16 on a phantom travel call on Allen Ray. UNC ended winning the tournament. On that day who would ever though it would Kyle Lowry to have the best NBA career out of all the players that played in that game.

I love Lowry. He's from Philly. Philly tough

He's listed at 6-foot-1. He's oddly shaped. He'll never be seen as the quickest or most athletic player on the court.

So how, exactly, does a player with Lowry's (lack of) physical gifts find a way to survive in a league full of players who are almost universally bigger, stronger and faster? By relying on the things he learned playing on the streets of North Philadelphia as a kid: grit, toughness and a determination to never back down.

"He plays like a Philly boy," Raptors guard Danny Green said. "He's a bulldog. He's a bully. He's out there with grit, doing his all, doing his thing. He's scrappy.

"He's trying to take everything he can. Obviously he's a little bit different off the court as he's gotten older, has a family now with children, but not much.

"He's a Philly boy at heart. That's who he is, and that's how he plays."

An incredibly weak draft.

The only drafted players still active in the league are:

LeMarcus Aldridge
Rudy Gay
J.J. Redick
Thabo Sefolosha
Rajon Rondo
Kyle Lowry
Paul Millsap

All but Millsap were taken in the 1st round. Aldridge was taken with the 2nd pick, and Gay was taken with the 8th pick.

The #3 pick, Adam Morrison (Gonzaga), only played 3 years. The #4 pick, Tyrus Thomas (LSU), only played 8 years. The #5 pick, Sheldon Williams (Duke), only played 6 years. The #6 pick, Brandon Roy (Washington), only played 6 years. The #9 pick, Patrick O'Bryant (Bradley), only played 4 years. The #10 pick, Mouhamed Sene (from Senegal), only played 3 years.

The #1 pick, Andrea Bargnani (from Italy), played 10 years, and was never a star.

I believe Aldridge, Lowry, Millsap, Rondo, and Brandon Roy were the only players from that draft that ever made it onto the NBA All-Star team.

I'd probably pick Aldridge, Millsap, and Rondo over Lowry as the best from that draft.

Allen Ray got mugged before the ref made the worse call in NCAA tourney history. The Villanova team was loaded even though Curtis Sumpter was injured. Four and Ray was possibly the best backcourt they had since Wally Jones, George Leftwich and Billy Melchionni shared that position.

Great summary. Roy would’ve been a big time star if he didn’t have the knees of a 65 year old. Always felt for him.
