OT: New documentary

"Fans also organized protests outside the theater where the documentary premiered"
I'm curious as to where the public outrage is for people rallying to defend a pedophile.

I mean, PSU students rallied to support a football coach who helped get a pedophile convicted and were heavily criticized for it.

Where the OUTRAGE?

You should probably look into the accusations against Jackson and you'll understand why people would:

1. Defend him.
2. People would not be outraged at this.

Jackson was a universal icon. Joe was only an icon to the PSU community and many couldn't wait for the opportunity to bring him down.

If you want a good documentary series, watch Evil Genius on Netflix. It's been out for about a year, and it's about the pizza deliveryman/bank robber that had a bomb around his neck, and it ended up exploding and killing him. It gives a lot of info about how it happened and the people behind it. Also, just watched The Devil We Know with my parents who are visiting. It's about the manufacturing of Teflon and the polluting of the surrounding area with C-8. It happened at the plant where my father worked for about 15 years.

I worked for a company outside of LA at the time. I had a good friend be an alternate on the Robert Blake trial. (who, by the way, is only 5' 4" tall). He then took a great interest in the MJ trial, attending every day in the audience. He told me that the media's reporting didn't reflect the trials in any way, shape or form. I know you are referencing paterno, but the notion of making judgements based on the media's reporting is suspect, at best.

Any time people defend Paterno (who is also dead), they get criticized.

Media wasn't as intent on tearing down Jackson as they were Paterno. Paterno's spin was juicer - legendary college football coach with pristine moral compass allows and protects pedophile to secure football wins. It's nonsense, but that's what it is. For Jackson? Multi-millionaire superstar with abusive childhood, a zoo at his home (which is called Neverland Ranch), and a predilection for inviting child stars to his home for parties and sleepovers is -gasp- a pedophile himself? Not shocking.

Evil Genius is well worth the watch. What a crazy and strange case that was.

Substitute "Paterno" for "Jackson" and that is a true statement.

I never liked Jackson (so I don't think his iconic status was universal). He was a good dancer (I guess) but I can't stand his music.

Agree. And Jackson was already regarded and seemingly accepted world-wide as a freak before his fall from grace. Joe was just a great man “in the age of the anti-hero.” I think the anti-hero bit was from the beginning of the posnanski book.

Jacko already had his detraction. Then folks jumped on a chance to hit Joe.

Wait....you mean the media's reporting of something didn't match what actually happened? No way! Of course, that's not even remotely relevant to Paterno....

BTW, I finally found something to add to the TV discussions. The looming tower on Hulu. It’s about the information obtained and approaches of the FBI and CIA prior to the 9/11 attacks. Sorta a documentary with some dramatization. Excellent so far.

I didn’t even know Hulu made its own exclusive series(es).

Jim Harbaugh approves this post.

Jesus. Juice.

I've actually never met someone who did not like at least some of Jackson's work.

You are quite unique.

LdN
I guess I like a song he wrote, but don't like the version of him performing it ("Smooth Criminal"; the Alien Ant Farm version is much better than the original).

Nothing he's ever done is "my kind of music"

Yeah, these two are really creating "awareness". For what?

....Jezebel.com?

Even if Jackson wasn't guilty of physically harming a child, the footage I've seen of his inability to see the difference between himself as an adult, and the kid as a kid...was as troubling as any actual crime he may have committed. Given the fact that man had an amusement park in his backyard called Neverland, if MJ was guilty of abusing kids, I feel like he would have been convicted while he was alive, not 9 years after his death.

Don't know about you, but i'm certainly more aware after reading that. MJ might have been a paedophile? Who knew.
