CVT is a glorified snowmobile transmission.... Essentially a belt on a torsion-loaded pulley that opens as RPM/load increases... Effectively enabling infinite drive-ratios (thus, "continuously variable" ) vs. 4 gears (eg. 4speed automatic).... Automakers love them because they are light, relatively simple devices, cheap to build, and squeeze an extra couple of mpgs.... I think the new Fits have CVTs as the two-pedal offering, thus it may be the only choice in the HR-V (i guess I could Google it, but, nah)... Make sure you test-drive a CVT as they feel quite different than a geared transmission... They key test is driving 60mph then stomping on the go-pedal to make a pass... If that doesn't bother you then you'll be fine operating a CVT ... Ive got 70k on mine and I still don't like how it responds... Rubber-bandy... Brings out all of the clamor in a 4cyl
