I know some of you despise these posts and I apologize. I gave you fair warning in the title though.

I am on my 2nd week of Hulu Libe and I don’t think I can stick with this yet. It has my local ABC and FOX. I have to buy CBS All Access separately. It doesn’t work as well though. CBS is a little more blurry when streaming my local channel.

Hulu Live’s layout is solid but it isn’t the best. I want a home screen where I pick on demand or live and go from there. As is, it is too confusing. When watching ESPN, the tough part is a very slight jump/freeze every 5-8 seconds. This doesn’t always happen, but when it does it is annoying. It just isn’t as smooth as turning on Dish and watching tv.

So, do any of you have opinions on the other options? Can I access locals online via ABC, Fox apps? I need my local ABC because of Penn State. I need BTN. The one thing I can’t seem to figure out....how to get Root Sports Pittsburgh. Is it available anywhere? MLB’s awful blackout rules are annoying.

FYI, I have Atlantic Broadband and get 80-120 MBPS download speed. I should be able to handle 2-4 live streams at any point in my home.

I am not in a great spot for an antenna. I will say, I think where I live that someone could make bank being an antenna installer.

I’m frustrated I can’t use my Apple TV 3rd Gen with Hulu Live. I’m also frustrated I can’t use my Roku XD either. Do those work with the other options?

I would really like to get this figured out. I am sick of outrageous bills. I’m sick of $12 a month per hopper and $7 a month per Joey. Those options cost me almost 50 a month just in case we watch TV in a room. I wish Dish Anywhere was an App on Roku.

Maybe right now, things just aren’t good enough to go this route. It is annoying to leave Hulu to load CBS to watch that app separately. Streaming sports does seem ok for the most part on HuluLive but I’ve had a few things I wanted to watch and the app kicked me out or gave me an error code or buffered. Netflix doesn’t buffer.

I have found that the traditional Hulu is awesome. I just wish it had everything. It is dumb that some shows only have random episodes and some seasons available.

So...what do you use? Can I get Root? What has the easiest guide and works the best? Any way to stream locals in the Altoona market? Hulu seems best for that. An indoor antenna won’t do much where I live. I’m also thinking the roku streaming stick is better than the fire stick. It seems like I have better success with a roku tv than I do with the fire stick overall.

I don’t want to deal with Kodi. I’m not real interested in that route. Lots here. I know. A lot of random stuff....maybe someone has some answers for me though.

I really can't answer any of your questions. Just want to tell you that I'm cancelling my free week of HULU Live today and sticking with Directv. Many reasons for that. I may end up going back to cable since the local company seems to have a decent deal that includes internet.

I have PSVUE and use the antenna for all the local channels. They come in crystal clear. Some hiccups here and there, not nothing serious and definitely worth the $80/mo savings over cable

Great post actually. Shows clearly why cord-cutting isn't for everyone (and not talking about you here).

I’m tempted by cord cutting but I don’t think I can get everything I want if I do. And if I beat up Comcast they’ll give me a reasonable enough price. ($125/mo for tv and internet)

I’m also using a networked cablecard tuner and Apple TVs for viewing content throughout the house so I avoid the $10-15 per set charge - as far as Comcast is concerned I have one device, the Cablecard - this also gives me whole home DVR with my present setup.

Check out Channels DVR if you’re interested. It can run on a simple NAS device even though I run in it a VM on my home server.

You may be able to download the CBS/ABC/NBC apps on your apple TV. Most of them allow you to view this, free of charge, but they won't allow you to zip commercials.

I've tried to cut the cord 3-4 times. For me, it's just a huge pain in the ass. The savings are minimal and the hassle is "maximal". Take it for what it is worth from an older, non-tech, curmudgeon.

I say this with all due respect and not in an ill-spirited way: Cord cutting isn't for you. Stick with DirecTV, Dish, cable, or whatever you have now. Negotiate prices, switch providers, do what you have to do to lower your bill--but I doubt you'll ever be satisfied with cord cutting based on the questions you're asking here.
