This is ridiculous. League needs to grow a pair and step in. Like they did when the Lakers traded for Chris Paul. The league is losing all its credibility.

He'll go there, play half a season, get a ring, then get a max contract somewhere in 2019

Not sure what the league can do here. If Cousins wants to go somewhere for 5.3M then he can. The players, not the league, are to blame for what is happening. Guys no longer want to build their own legacy...they want to play with their boys. The sport isn't what it once was but that's true for most professional leagues right now. GS was winning a title with or without Cousins next year barring injuries. Only Houston can compete.

The NBA still has credibility? In my opinion, the NBA has about as much credibility as the WWF - star players run the teams, manipulate the system to stack teams, and there is precious little competitive balance.....If DeMarco Cousins did join the Warriors, that may be the kiss of death for that team....Cousins is a cancer - New Orleans actually played much better and won a lot more games, after he went down with his season ending injury....he puts up great numbers, but his addition may ruin team chemistry and cause negative issues...

Wow. Lots of misinformation here. DeMarcus Cousins himself was quoted, today, as saying he “got no offers” from the Pelicans or anyone else. Coming back from an Achilles injury is no guarantee, but Boogie was, by his own words, “pissed.”

He called up Warriors GM Bob Myers and asked Myers if the Dubs were interested in a one year deal!

What was Myers supposed to do? Say no?! No other team made an offer to the dude. Hey Pelicans, Lakers, Rockets, etc: WTF?

BTW, what were the Pelicans thinking?!! Unless they had inside medical information that was extremely negative, they phucked up big time. Letting an All Star center leave and getting no compensation for him?! They have the Brow, but top centers do not grow on trees.

I love basketball. I coached for many years. My kids played at the D-III level. I attend NCAA tournament games as often as possible. I wouldn’t walk across the street to watch an NBA game if someone offered me a free ticket.

Whatever will the NBA do without you?

As you said, to each their own, but watching college kids who cant shoot gets a bit tough to watch at times for me. I find the athleticism and skill level of NBA players to be incredibly fun to watch.

I mean, you would have to be the most inept sports franchise of all time to let an all star center walk away for nothing. It infuriates me.
Oh wait, I thought you were talking about John Tavares and the Islanders. Carry on.

Agree about the NBA. Talent and athleticism and enjoyment of watching aside... the NBA has been somewhat a hoax for many years.

It was before my time but the ewing knicks fix video is hilarious, and it has just gotten worse.

I love watching the Warriors, but i gave up on the reality of the NBA the year they moonwalked the knicks into the finals with calls like the larry johnson 4 pt play.

Before that i thought it was a real sport.

Becoming more like the wwe is a good move.

Funny you say that about the Ewing Fix. I'd like to see the video. A friend of mine was in the front row and IIRC, they used these placards with the team logo and white film over them. He said you could see through the film so you knew what placard you were pulling. This is in addition to the infamous "bent corner". He felt it was clear the NBA fixed it so the Knicks got Ewing. BTW, my NBA friend told me about this within a week after the draft and before a lot of the evidence about a conspiracy came out.

It is on youtube. Just search it. Watch the guy deliberately bend the corner of one card. And it was frozen.

Yup, free markets are great until you don't like the outcome.

I don't know NBA stuff and don't know how good this guy is (where'd he play in college?) but from an economic standpoint, if he has no other offers, I'm not giving him $5+ million to play a year. What's the league minimum?

Kentucky. Four time NBA All-Star and a member of the US National Team. If he's fully recovered from his injury, he's a steal. If not, not. That's why NBA GMs get paid the big bucks.

Winning seems to solve a lot of attitude problems. Golden State won without a legit big guy. He'll definitely help on both ends if he's healthy. He won't have to play huge minutes. He'll only make Golden State better. If you have a healthy starting 5 of Durant, Curry, Thompson, Draymond and Cousins.. good lord

And he’ll essentially be a bit player on that team. He try the attitude if he wants, but they don’t need him. Easier to tie the line when everybody isn’t bending over backwards to make you happy.

I have a hard time believing he had no better offers. I mean, I have no idea, but have to believe a team like Utah or Memphis would have paid twice that on a one-year deal. They give guys $10m to set the bench all year.

Hard for me to believe, too. Published reports suggest is was a combination of his Achilles tendon injury and his attitude. (Even his agent said "he hates to lose, and it does not bring out the best in him.") But the upside if he returns healthy is so great, that you would think teams other than just Boston and Golden State would have been interested. If published reports are true, Golden State got involved only because Cousins called them. WTF?

Maybe his attitude is a bigger issue than the public is aware of. If so, this seems like the NBA equivalent of an established (but hard to manage) NFL star like T.O. or Randy Moss going to the Patriots to: (1) win; and (2) refurbish his image as a team player.

Thanks for that. However, one would have to suggest that his agent didn't do his/her job in shopping him around to maximize the offer. I would think you'd call GSW and say "do you have interest?" Then you'd call the other teams and say "I've got a taker, what kind of terms would you offer (if any)?" You then lay it out and make the best choice. Hard to believe he is going to the GSW for less than $6m.

The whole "Boogie had no other offers" is really being taken out of context, not just here but everywhere. He had no significant offers ... keyword being "significant." Whatever that means, I don't know. But it probably means no one was offering $20 million for one year or a long-term deal. He certainly could have done better than one-year, $5.3 million.

It might work, but if it does it will be a first for Cousins....Pelicans immediately starting playing better and winning when he went down with the injury. Sometimes you can have too many guys who like to score - and not enough guys to do the dirty work on defense and on the boards. I was actually a GSW fan since the 70s when Rick Barry was there - he was my favorite player. But, once Steve Kerr starting talking more about politics than basketball, I turned on them. I was actually hoping Houston would beat them. I only have a very casual interest in the NBA now.....not enough competitive balance and too political (as is the NFL now)....GSW getting Durrant was bad enough - now also getting Cousins. That's a joke....the cap must be a VERY soft cap.....
