Oh so sad. Goodbye Gregg Allman RIP.

I met Greg at Penn State shortly after he spent his time in jail. He played occasionally with a blues band out of D.C. called The Nighthawks (great band) who were appearing at the spring concert MovinOn. After doing an on-air interview with Jimmy Thackery of the Nighthawks, I asked him if Allman would be playing too. He said he never knew when or if Gregg would show up for any of their concerts. At that point a car game bounding over the grass and he says "speaking of the devil,". Allman gets out if the car, greets Jimmy who introduces me and Allman turns to me (I'll never forget these words) "Hey kid, is there a McDonalds near by? Yeah? Here's a twenty, go get me a some quarter pounders with cheese. Bring me the change please." He tosses me the keys and off I go on a mission of great importance!

Because of inconsistent generated power he gave up playing the B-3 organ under the stars that night but the next night he and the Nighthawks put on one of the best concerts I've ever heard. I think it was at a downtown club known as the Unicorn club. A long time has passed since then and now.

Regardless, a great performer, writer & singer. Distinctive style of voice and playing.
