some may remember him from "Sports Night", or his more famous TV show "Benson"

but he first won an Emmy as Benson the sarcastic butler on the groundbreaking TV show "Soap"

an acting legend who shall be missed

Robert Guillaume was a very talented performer, who had a wide range of skills, from comedy to opera.

Robert Peter Williams was born in St. Louis, Mo., changing his name only after he decided on a career in acting.

He served his country,
joining the Army in 1945.

Another impressive member
of "The Greatest Generation"
now laid to rest.

Thank you Robert for your service
and many years of creative rolls,
entertainment and laughter.

RIP

Guillaume also possessed a powerful, mellifluous voice, which he used most notably to play the title role in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Phantom of the Opera” onstage.

Ironically I was just watching SOAP repeats on Youtube the other day. It has aged pretty well. Benson's smart ass butler thing was good. Chuck and Bob were especially good.

BTW, here is some obscure trivia. Ever see a guy named Sam Harris who is kind of a famous public intellectual discussing various social and political issues (and has a popular podcast named "Waking Up.) His mother is Susan Harris. Susan Harris created lots of TV shows, such as Golden Girls and Empty Nest and also...SOAP.

I didn't watch that many episodes of Sports Night but I do recall the one where his character said he was at the 1951 National League playoff game but was in the bathroom when Bobby Thompson hit the shot heard 'round the world.

That reminds me of how Myron Cope was in the elevator when The Immaculate Reception happened.
