Many of the issues Taggart inherited, they say, began with the coddling of Jameis Winston, the player who led the Noles to such remarkable heights under Fisher. Those issues eventually bled into a hands-off attitude with academics and placed the program at risk of not complying with NCAA standards and being ineligible to participate in championship events.

Another former assistant under Fisher tells Bleacher Report that by the end of Fisher's reign, coaches were being given one mandate: "Keep the players eligible."

When asked if that was indeed the overriding academic plan, Coburn admits, "It appears that was the case."

here is my question- how does this work?
Another former assistant under Fisher tells Bleacher Report that by the end of Fisher's reign, coaches were being given one mandate: "Keep the players eligible."

I mean how do coaches keep players eligible? Go to class for them? They cant sign them up for courses, they dont do study hall etc, somebody else is in charge of all of that, so how do the coaches do everything to keep players eligible?

When asked in Executive Session of the BOT not long after Barron’s hiring, he shared with the Board some very unkind sentiments about Jamis Winston. Very interesting given his public posture during the debacle.

By the way, I believe Barron’s college roommate was brought in by FSU to provide crisis management advice.

Stanford's violations were piss ant.

They were Level II (major violations). Only in the cesspool known as the NCAA would they be considered "piss ant" because so many other schools are worse. Regardless, the point was not the seriousness of the violations. It was that they were committed by Stanford, a former paragon of virtue in the NCAA whorehouse.

Yeah, their softball team practiced too much and Devon Cajuste went to dinner and movies with and got a loan to buy a bicycle from his landlord (total value: less than $400). Piss ant in any world where the inhabitants have half a brain among them. And the chances that the NCAA discovers these if Stanford didn't self report? Slim say buh-bye.

You continue to miss the point. So be it.

Yeah. But that ain’t the coaches And how would they know what nerd kid to hire

Coaches have a friendly dean or two on speed dial to change enough grades to "I" or sign progress to degree waivers so that kids remain eligible.

Kids have work study. Some get tutoring jobs. I worked in D1 p5 ath. dep. Things happen.

Coach makes said directive in staff meeting. GA take directive. GA contact kid to find out what is needed for help. Contact academic advisor to ath dept. to find failings and needed requirements. Get answers report back academic support staff.

They find nerds through campus contacts.

Top notch politician. Public position one way, private position another way.

He is... The Robber Barron!

I always held to the belief that college was where you went to get an education, learn a vocation, and find a way to support yourself for your working life. Sadly, it's all about the Benjamin's
