I'm glad that King Ezekiel (spelling?) didn't just agree to fight the Saviors. That would have been to simple and obvious. It will be interesting that Carol, Morgan, and now Darryl are all living with or near the Kingdom. Will Darryl or Carol convince King Ezekiel to join the fight.

Also, who are the new people that Rick and the others ran into near the boat... They look like brand new people, and by the smile on Rick's face, I think he expects to recruit them for the fight. I wonder whether they were always in the area, but undiscovered, or if they are nomadic.

There is still the group of women that had all of those weapons. I'm guessing that they get recruited as well.

I wonder if Rick and the Alexandra people have something special planned for all of the explosives? It seemed like Rosita may have kept some of the dynamite for herself, maybe to use in an attempt to kill Negan.

Maybe John Wick is in the group that surrounded Rick & that is why he is smiling. Will someone just put a bullet in Negan's head already? I am sick of this exaggerated bastard already. Better yet just bite through his carotid!

I forgot to mention the scene when Rick and Mashone decapitated all of the walkers by driving withe the cable between them. That was pretty cool! But then I was like, it's too bad your car's don't have a reverse gear.... they had to get out of their cars right in the middle of the herd.

Some random thoughts:

The mass decapitation scene on the highway was pretty cool.

No idea who the new group is, but their appearance got me thinking about some general weaknesses in the plot. Maybe the comics explain this better, but it seems like these groups should be running into far more resource limitations than they have been.

They never say exactly how far these groups are from each other, or how far they roam while scavenging, but it has been multiple years of "show time" so there should be almost nothing left in terms of non-perishable good, gasoline and ammunition. They have touched on this a little bit, but it seems like it should be a bigger issue, especially the gasoline, which probably wouldn't be in very good shape (condensation etc) after multiple years.

Also, I always kind of assumed that "Alexandria" was near Alexandria, VA, but you never see them in areas that could be the closer in suburbs of DC, which I assume (while dangerous with walkers) would have a lot of scavenging opportunities. Have they ever said where they are right now? Do the comics explain any of this any better?

Alexandria is just a random community name. It has nothing to do with Alexandria Virginia. I think they are still around Georgia somewhere.

I've always thought that there are some huge plot holes when it comes to ammo (come on-RPGs are still floating around?) and gasoline, and everyone should be riding around on horseback by now or walking, and fighting with spears and knives, but that would be a little boring I guess.

They've had multiple chances to take out Negan- a little goofy that they didn't.

I also find it stupid the walkers seem like a minor nuisance now. By that I mean, last night Rick is in the middle of a whole bunch of them with no knife and he now can just push them away. In the past they'd be swarmed and eaten.

actually I believe they are closer to DC. remember, they were traveling towards DC to follow Eugene's phantom quest for the cure.

I think it has been stated that the group is in Virginia. I know there are reasons (staying true-ish to the comic book and ratings) for not focusing on environmental and human factors as much. For me, the series "jumped the shark" at the Terminus. I would've preferred to see several episodes on environmental and health factors making the situation so unbelievably desperate for humans. Examples: dysentery, abscessed teeth, bad water, animal attacks, massive fires, bridge collapses, floods, etc...all of which would be happening within the first couple of years. For pete's sake, spend a little extra cash on one blizzard-winter-freezing episode.

The near final straw for me is bully-aspect of the Saviors. It's like they took the funniest bullies from NERDS or other 80s movies and put them in an apocalypse setting. Some hope will be restored, for me, if they don't follow Negan's story line in the comic books.

As stated above, they aren't in Georgia anymore because they were on the road to DC when Eugene had conned them into thinking he was a scientist who knew what the cure was.

I think the walkers being a mere nuisance is part of the point. The other people are FAR more of a threat than the walkers (unless you have a huge hoard), which is an important theme of the show. The other component of this that is not addressed is that the "older" walkers are more decomposed and there don't move as well, so over time the walkers will actually become less and less of a threat (as old walkers degrade and there are fewer new walkers).

this is just some feedback from the comic books . . . "The Walking Dead" always referred to the humans, not the zombies (I think Rick even says it somewhere in season 3). They are ALL infected. but more importantly, the zombies act as this relentless amoral force in the comics and the TV series. They have no agenda, no politics, no morality. The surviving humans are always more of a threat BECAUSE they are capable of evil.

I'll also tease . . . there are worse people out there than the Saviors. and your assessment of the degrading zombies is accurate, but there is still strength in "numbers"

+100. Its one of the reasons I'm not that interested in the comic anymore. I just didn't like what happened after All Out War.

And yes they are in VA.

The dumbest thing in both the comic and show is that groups don't immediately move near oceans/huge lakes. There's a reason why almost all (if not all) great civilizations spring up near major bodies of water.

With the zombies, a water barrier on one or multiple sides becomes even more of a benefit than just access to additional food, transportation mode, etc.

If I'm in Atlanta and the shit goes down, I'm getting to the sea islands stat

I assume you haven't been watching Fear The Walking Dead?

Dedicated watcher. Why? I know they're not in Atlanta now as they were heading to D.C.

I'm saying that from the beginning, you should immediately head to arable areas near the coast so you can hunt AND fish, plus have protection on one side.

Oh wait, you said Fear the Walking Dead. Sorry. I have and I know that the zombies can come out of the water, but I think that's more controllable.

The book World War Z also had some cool water-based scenes. Now, talk about a missed opportunity. World War Z could have made 3-4 great movies

you also have no path to retreat . . . especially when they come OUT of the water :p

Sorry to hijack, but does everyone else (who's read it) think World War Z could have made an amazing multipart Movie? Imagine the battle scene in the desert with the humans in Napoleonic squares calling the zombies to them while blasting Iron Maiden. Then scenes with the outbreak near the Himalayan passes.

I think we may be getting a sequel. Was disappointed they chopped a lot out of the first film and toned down the violence

I'd go for higher ground where you can establish a perimeter and let gravity work for you. . .

btw, what did you think of the mass decapitations this week? clever . . .
A Castle on a hill with water access and a secured route of retreat - via tunnels or fencing with multiple egress points. Oh yeah. Love thinking about this stuff. I loved Max Brooks' concept of old ways of defending against an enemy (prior to air power) coming back into vogue - castles, moats, etc.

I'm waiting for someone to use an attractant to get a zombie horde to fall to their demise off the edge of a quarry or cliff.

I liked the movie with Brad Pitt, but there wasn't as much battling against the zombies as you describe in the book. I think that sounds like it would have been a good couple of movies, as you suggest. It's not likely to happen now, I guess, unless the Brad Pitt movie was a segment in the books, and not pieces throughout the book.

I liked the mass decapitation, but (as discussed above) why didn't Rick and Mashone back their cars up to get away from the hoard prior to getting out of their vehicles, and found it amazing that they just pushed their way through the walkers to get away... Still, I found the episode quite enjoyable and remain a huge fan of the show.

There is a castle near the water in Murrells Inlet, SC, not all that far from Atlanta. The constant problem is, that other humans are the problem, and all the best spots are known to many, and they will all head to one of the best spots they can think of.

I expect there are enclaves which are largely safe from both walkers and humans in that world. But it would be a pretty boring show/comic if the only threat ever was neutralized well far away from our stars without ever threatening them. Or at least a very different show.
