getting psyched to watch Season 4 of "Better Call Saul", though still upset that Michael McKean got overlooked during the awards season . . . I've always loved Jonathan Banks as an actor. Very slimy villain henchmen in Beverly Hill Cop and great bit part in Airplane!

But I really appreciated his acting chops in "Wiseguy", one of the most under appreciated TV shows of the 80s. Great star turns by Kevin Spacey, Steven Bauer, and even Glenn Frey! Gritty undercover federal investigation plotlines combined with complex acting from Ken Wahl and Jonathan Banks.

What are your nominees for under appreciated shows of the 70s and 80s?

You gotta go with the Rockford Files unless you feel it wasn't underappreciated which maybe it wasn't since it ran for 6 years. If so I would then go with Simon and Simon with Gerald McCraney and Jamison Parker.

LOL, They even made a lunch box commemorating the show. Truly, a sign of greatness!

Wiseguy was a groundbreaking show in many ways. They were really the first show to have multi-episode arcs. They also explored some formerly taboo areas as I recall--for example, wasn't Spacey involved romantically with his sister in his arc?

Other guest stars that I recall were Jerry Lewis and Blondie. Definitely a great show.

Rockford Files is tied with Seinfeld for my favorite show ever.

Some good ones being mentioned.
I enjoyed "The Greatest American Hero" - late 70s, early 80s. I saw that it is being revived sometime soon with Hannah Simone as the lead.

Also liked Quantum Leap, for the most part.

Many others, I'm sure, but those popped into my head first.

OT: Some 90s shows that I thought were great and perhaps underappreciated were "3rd Rock From the Sun" and "News Radio" - both great week after week, imo.

Benny Hill Show
Remote Control
Fall Guy
Hart and Hart
WKRP in Cincinnati
Barney Miller
Married with Children
Gary Shandling Show
Cheers

My absolute #1 is SOAP. Way ahead of its time and seriously funny.

Kung Fu starring David Carradine

Master Po: Close your eyes. What do you hear?
Young Caine: I hear the water, I hear the birds.
Po: Do you hear your own heartbeat?
Caine: No.
Po: Do you hear the grasshopper which is at your feet?
Caine: Old man, how is it that you hear these things?
Po: Young man, how is it that you do not?

yes on Spacey, ewww! Joan Severance played his sister

I always liked the Knox Pooley arc . . . back when white supremacists were bad guys

One of my favorite bits from Airplane...

one that hasn't been mentioned is Soap. Very ahead of the curve.

I recently watched a Rifleman. It occurs to me that some of these plot lines are timeless (Mayberry comes to mind as well). I often wonder, in the age of hollywood re-dos, why people don't brush off those scripts and remake them. Shows like Columbo, Then Came Bronson, Branded.....

HOLY F******S****. This is a super duper flag bro. Severance had one of the hottest bods EVER. And you say her name like it's a side dish to Spacey?!
