OT: Vinyl LP Album Covers (artwork)

So this is kind of a cool thing I'm sharing with my 14 year old son. He started playing guitar about 6 months ago (taking weekly lessons from a guy who has his own metal band), and has become fascinated with classic rock. He wants to now change his bedroom from its current Penn State sports theme that he's had since like age 8 to a classic rock theme. We've decided to cover the walls with rock album covers and hang his guitars on the wall.

So, I brought all of my old LPs up from the basement for him to go through. We're looking to mount about 40. I found these really cool LP mounting brackets that allow you to slide them in and out for interchangeability. So far, he picked out the following albums (based either on his familiarity with the band, the songs on the album, or the artwork):

Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon
The Knack - Get the Knack
John Lennon - Imagine
Doors -LA Woman
REO Speedwagon - High Infedelity
Supertramp - Breakfast in America
The J. Gells Band - Freeze Frame
Springsteen - Born in the USA
Van Morrison - Live
Meat Loaf - Bat out of Hell
ELO - Discovery
Beatles - Meet the Beatles
Steely Dan - Can't Buy a Thrill
The Alan Parsons Project - The Turn of a Friendly Card
The Doobie Brothers - The Captain and Me
Kansas - Leftoverture
Beatles - Let it Be
The Steve Miller Band - Book of Dreams
Kansas - Point of No Return
AC DC - High Voltage
Fleetwood Mac - Fleetwood Mac
ZZ Top - Eliminator
Asia- Asia
Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms
Boston - Boston
Rush -2112
Beach Boys -Endless Summer
Beatles - Yellow Submarine
Eagles - Hotel California

We're planning to hit some vintage record shops to scout out for more so he can change them out periodically. Interested in your suggestions for cool album artwork that we should look for.

Not sure how "classic" he wants to go (I'm old enough now that some of my favs are considered in that genre), but here is some cool wall art..:

"Classic" to him is pretty much anything the old man listened to when I was his age and older. The other day he told me he wished he grew up in the '70's because the music was so much better. Of course, there was no XBox then, so that would be an issue.

For you guitar guys, his instructor uses a pretty cool teaching method of progressing through songs with increasing difficulty. He has a library of 100 level, 200 level up to 1000 level (the hardest) songs and teaches tabs using a software called Guitar Pro that we had to purchase. He also beta tests songs for the software company. So for example, the first song my son learned was Wonderful Tonight by Clapton. He started learning the chords for this song at his very first lesson, and by lesson 3 could play the chords through the entire song while his instructor played lead guitar (the Clapton part) with him. I think you have to learn 10 songs in each level to jump up to the next level. He's currently working on the Stones' Satisfaction and will probably jump up to level 200 soon.

This is the mounting system I plan to use. Just ordered 40 of them this morning. If anyone is interested, the company that makes them is Records on Walls:

Rolling Stones - Some Girls.
Not really a fan of the band, but the Supertramp "Breakfast in America" album cover is pretty cool.

Watch the end of the movie Pirate Radio. They roll through a bunch of very cool album covers.

If you guys watched Jeopardy tonight you should have cleaned the category, no exceptions.

If you could get the early Smell the Glove cover that was pulled from the shelves, definitely frame that.

Bitch School was very close:

This ponderous collection of songs within begs the question - On what day did God create Spinal Tap and couldn't he have rested on that day

You guys got all the good ones BUT....... I will add Mahogany Rush. They had some crazy good artwork covers. And it wasn't until years later when I started doing woodwork that I discovered what a "mahogany rush" was. Just sand away for a while. You can try Honduran Mahogany, Peruvian Mahogany, Bolivian Mahogany, South American Mahogany, Big Leaf Mahogany, they're all good and in no time you'll be designing your own album covers

Great project to do with your son though, enjoy!

If your son is interested in learning rock guitar here are some names that helped me play better. Michael Schenker he played with UFO ,SCORPIONS,MSG. Gary Moore played with THIN LIZZY and his own band. Richy BLACKMORE WITH DEEP PURPLE and RAINBOW. RONNIE MONTROSE ,other bands SCORPIONS , IRON MAIDEN , URIAH HEEP, BLACK SABBATH, RANDY RHOADS with OZZY. There are many more i just cant think of them all right now. And many of their album covers were great also

th

Sure this one has been mentioned several times, but it just bears repeating again - this is one of the most iconic, simplest and easily recognizable album covers of all time.
