Arguably our best defensive player from 2016 - John Reid. I know we loose a lot on D, but having a shutdown corner like John Reid coming back for 2018 will make a big difference. We lost him in the spring of last year, so he'll have almost 2 years of recovery time to get back in the same form.

Would have made a really good pairing with Haley this year. You wonder if he would have helped in the OSU game this year. But alas, every team has injuries.

He may have helped with duh-oh-high-ya, but a DE that can consistently beat a good OT and deliver a big hit on a QB would have helped more....

Reid is definitely a very good player, but with the young talent that CJF has assembled I believe we will see multiple great players emerge this year that will compete with Reid to be our best defensive player. Possibly Givens, Monroe, Castro-Fields, Wade, Miller, Simmons, Gross-Motos, Buchholz.....or one of the young LB's....

Or even made a difference at MSU. We'd have an argument to be in the CFP being 11-1 with a 1 point road loss at OSU.

Did I miss something? Is there any reason to think Shaka wont be on the team?
He and shareef Miller had a discipline thing of some kind.Shareef played in the second half Shaka did not.At least that's what I heard. He evidently left the locker room early

I think it is #30, Kevin Givens. I forgot to mention that he collapsed the pocket on several occasions against Washington. I am not sure how many tackles he got but he disrupted a lot of plays and Washington couldn't handle him. He was in the backfield all night.

But I understand those that say Reid, Miller or Simmons.

There have been some internet rumblings that Mr. Toney had quite the hissy fit on the sideline and left for the locker room mid second half. TIFWIW

Toney wouldn't be a huge loss. Sure, he has that quick 1st step or two, but he seems to be a 1 trick pony with the outside pass rush.

Has anyone heard anything on Fred Hansard's development so far? He was initially a Florida commit and one of if not the highest-rated DL recruit in recent years.

I believe there have been reports of both Hansard and Bolds being a handful on the scout team. The competition for depth chart position and playing time at DT going into 2018 will be fierce. Windsor and Givens as the likely starters. And Jordan, Shelton, Hansard and Bolds, and likely Mustopher, competing for playing time.

See you at the Blue/White game.

i expect our defense to be better next season ... what we lose in terms of experience will be offset with much better athleticism. so it may take a few games, but i think we will see an improvement
