...sharing they never knew WE ARE had its roots with Wally Triplett.

I texted them back a picture of Joe Paterno and let them know that there's lots of things they don't know about WE ARE.

It did not have it's root as a cheer with Wally Triplett. Much later the cheerleaders where the ones who started the cheer, the year escapes me.

Another myth is that the Nittany Lion has always been our mascot. Our first mascot was a mule: Coaly. Coaly helped to building the original classroom/administration/dormitory building which is now Old Main. Coaly was replaced years later by a couple of bulldogs, yes bulldogs, which the Trustees purchased to protect the women in their dormitory.

The cheerleaders created the cheer in 1977

Onward State did a nice job debunking the supposed Cotton Bowl connection to the cheer.
