Pan Am Qualifier

14 is the magic number, as two men's freestyle and two women's freestyle weights have been qualified, of the 18 possible (6 Greco, 6 Men's Free, 6 Women's Free). Only allowed to send wrestlers in weight classes not yet qualified, and then only one wrestler. Top two places earn their country the spot, regardless of whether that wrestler is the one that goes to the Olympics.

Zain is on the opposite side of the bracket from the Cuban (Tobier), whom he lost 10-9 in a previous tournament

DT is on the same side as the Cuban Torreblanca. They should meet in the semis. DT has beaten Torreblanca two or three times, but Dieringer just lost to him.

Gilman gets the Cuban (Ortega) in his 2nd match. Gilman lost to him in 2018 7-4.

Gwiz is in Group B with a Cuban (Romero) and a guy from Puerto Rico

Freestyle action is Sunday. Greco on Friday and womens on Saturday

Greco underway. No spectators allowed. Hancock with a TF at 97 kg.

Can follow on Trackwrestling

Greco, thus far, USA only (includes last bout);

60kg - Hafizov over Brazil, gets MEX in semi's
67kg - Sancho over Dominicum Rep, gets MEX in semi's
77kg - Smith over Canada, gets CUBA in semi's
87kg - Rau wins over Venezuela, has JAM in semi's
97kg - Hancock over Canada in pool play, has HON in semi's
130kg - Coon lost vs Chile

Update: Rau (87kg) won on criteria, gets JAM in semi's (also changed above)

Remember, top-2 earn their country the weight for the Olympics. Next win for all the guys except at 130kg, will earn the weight.

Looks like guys at 60, 67, and 87 KG are into the finals and have qualified the weights. Hancock needs one more win at 97KG and will be into the finals.

Hancock wins 9-0 in the first period. Qualifies the weight and into the finals

Question if there are 4 wrestlers, say, A B C and D
If A beats B in the semis and C beats D, then A beats C in the finals, does B get a chance to wrestle C, since they both only lost to the champ?

Sancho and Hafizov lose in the finals but still qualify the spots for Olympics
Rau wins in finals with a forfeit
Hancock up 2-0 in finals right now against a Cuban
Coon will wrestle for 3rd place shortly

Hancock is losing right now 4-9 at the break
Update: 8-11 score with 1:30 left

Wow, Hancock seemed to pull it out in the last few seconds to win 12-11, but they take that off the board and he loses 8-11. Still gets the Olympic qualifying spot

They are not wrestling true second at this tournament. Both finalists qualify and that's it.

Helen Maroulis is back on the mat vs Morais of Canada.

1st
  • 5:00 TD Helen 2-0. close to an exposure too.
  • 3:42 TD Helen 4-0
  • end of period
2nd
  • 2:25 TD Helen 6-0
  • 2:18 TD Helen somehow, she looked caught dead to rights. 8-0
  • 1:25 TD Morais 8-2. Brick thrown but Helen throws it back like a boss
  • 0:14 TD Helen with a vicious whizzer,
  • and gets the exposure for the tech 12-2
Glad to see her back! Take heart, Brady.

Miracle is up now, but I can’t continue pbp. She does get the fall vs Venezuela. Got the TD right away and fought for 2 minutes to stick her.
