Parris vs. Cassioppi

Parris out-athleted Cass -- bit that last takedown was very skilled. Not gonna see many HWTs deliberately clear the hand that way to open up the counter pick.

Not to mention how many Wrestlers willingly put themselves under 250 pound men to execute a Barrel Roll?

True, though that barrel roll has been Parris' go to move for years (and he was a HS 220, so he surely faced a number of HWTs).

He used that move to pin his opponent at JR World finals.

Interesting, I knew he liked that move as a younger wrestler, did not realize he was that successful with it against High End competiton, then to do it to a huge D1 High Quality Wrestler…..Pretty Impressive.

That front barrel roll can be countered pretty easily if you're quick to react. The mistake most guys make is trying to fight against it. What you do is lock your hands underneath the guy and do a cement mixer and roll the guy through. He'll go right over and onto his stomach.

That's a lot to ask of HWTs. Few have that quickness, and probably few have practiced or defended it live.

If a big guy can hit a barrel roll as clean as Parris did, I don't think the counter that I described is that much different. You just have to react correctly. Typically, anytime you're on your knees and your opponent grabs your elbow and ducks under you, you can expect an attempt at the barrel roll. There's plenty of time to react if you are ready. (i.e. have done it in practice.)

It looked like Cassioppi was in pain during the final takedown. Check out his face at 5:20-5:22.

Something nobody has mentioned on this board, but Cass seems like a pretty decent guy. I hope he is OK. I (literally) bumped into him at the US Open in LV last spring, and he came across as a polite and fairly jovial big kid. I was a little surprised at that, but I'd sure hate to see his season ruined because of an injury.

Nobody wants to see Iowa lose another HWT over a shot to the leg.

I thought the same thing when I watched the two shake hands after the match.

A real limp, not a Desanto limp......
