Penn State Altoona Pitcher charged w/hitting batter

I would think when you play a sport, you consent to a reasonable chance of injury. Hitting a player is part of the game, it is not uncommon. I'm not saying it's right to clock a player on purpose but clearly it occurs at all levels of the sport. Are football players subject to lawsuits for vicious hits now? That could be just as intentional and part of the game.

Not sure how I feel about this. The batter in this case was a team mate and during batting practice. I can see hitting an opposing player during a game as I have seen it in the major leagues but your own team mate? The story says the pitcher immediately said why she hit her which was another stupid move on the pitcher's part. Can we go back to the good old days where players actually had to earn their position based on performance instead of having to kiss butt and politic to get to play?

The link doesn't specify injuries but simple assault seems like a stretch even if it was intentional.

What does that even mean in the context of this situation?
