just hired Doug West (Villanova, NBA) as their head coach, interesting?

Isn't he originally from Altoona?

From Altoona. Can't wait to get yelled at by a former NBA'er reffing PSU Altoona ball!

He's bounced around a lot, including coaching HS. This altoona gig probably pays something like $7,000, not really a big deal, and no pressure.

After the NBA, West spent two years coaching at a high school in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, and two years as an athletic director at a high school in Wheeling, West Virginia. West was an assistant coach for the Duquesne University women's basketball team for one season. West was named an assistant coach for the Villanova Wildcats, replacing Ed Pinckney on October 5, 2007.[3] In 2012, West joined the coaching staff of the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the NBA D-League

Doug was one of Rollie Massimino's best recruits ever - and he had a bunch of them. We came out on top in a vicious recruiting battle with Paul Evans at Pitt. There was a tank car load of acid sprayed around by Evans, he and Rollie wound up bitter, bitter enemies. They REALLY hated each other.

Rollie went out of his way to schedule a game in everybody's area so the player's family and friends could watch him play, so we wound up playing a game on the road at St. Francis - Loretto.

With West's great experience as a player and coach, I'd expect the PSU Altoona players to learn a ton and have a great time playing for him.

Doug obviously doesn't need the money - pretty sure he's set for life. Now he can have fun, coach the players, and enjoy life. Not a bad deal at all.

I am a proud alumnus of the Penn State Altoona basketball program. 1983-84 season. Scored a total of 3 points in my one year career. I think we won 2 games that year. I remember clearly getting drilled by Baltimore County Community College by 40+.

At that time Doug West was a starter at Altoona High along with another good player that eventually played for Penn State (forget his name)

Nice, my roommate played for PSU 'toona in '00-'01 and '01-'02.

Mike Iuzzolino - left PSU for Loretto and was awesome at St. Francis. Led them to NCAA appearance. Drafted by Dallas. Sadly he is talked about in N. Texas as a reminder of how inept the franchise was pre-Cuban and Dirk.

When I was at PSU Altoona the head coach was Armen Gilliam who was a pretty solid NBA player(averaged 14/7). Seemed like a cool guy too. There were a few guys on that team that probably could have been DI players. Gilliam died a few years ago and he was only 47.
