Penn State and Cornell

Do we have to bring up Joe Paterno, et alia?
I’m not posting any Gifs here. You are uninformed and have no idea what you’re talking about. If you want to debate the character of Joe and Sue Paterno I’d be happy to do it in a public forum. Just name the time and place. Short of that, STFU. That family has earned more respect than you could dream of offering. You are nothing meaningful indeed.

Jefe gave you two of the reasons, posted above and Koll at least believes he had an offer...was waiting for it on paper. The Cornell loss in 2011 NCAA itself was not a factor though a lot of people there and outside of Cornell felt the Andrew Long grab was sacrificing ideals to gain a championship. In addition, the spectacular contrast in personalities can also be a factor. Cornell also still is under the impression that PSU owes them a date from the last series.

I’ll say this, what Koll built at Cornell is not only an incredible feat cultivating a TON of support, but he is a great coach. He has the 2nd most national champions since Cael arrived at PSU. We can feel great about what we have achieved at PSU with Cael.....but Cael absolutely knew what would happen if Koll landed at PSU. The power was going to shift East under a PSU/Koll regime and the ISU goal of a NC was going to get harder. Would we have had two full hands of titles under Koll? Maybe not, but several for sure with his recruiting ability, understanding parent, wrestler and alumni needs and a clear ability to coach.

It’s no secret I’d like to see it and yes....happy to punt a PA school for a couple of years series.

That might explain Koll's personal feelings but it doesn't make sense for everyone else at Cornell. If Penn State had hired Koll, it would have been a big loss for Cornell. I'll stand by my comment that the 2011 tournament has a lot to do with it. Keep in mind this opinion comes from one on one conversations with someone who had a personal stake in the matter, not speculation based on Internet postings.

A fairly unintelligent response. But hey, everybody has their bar.
Why is referencing an anomaly (Billy George) to smear an entire program an intelligent response? He no more represents Cornell than anyone involved in the Paterno affair represents Penn State.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Just to be clear, there was no Paterno affair. Sandusky is/was/remains the criminal. Joe and Sue Paterno are worthy to be called legendary. Plus, the S.A. had nothing to do with PSU Wrestling.

George was an ass, Koll is class. Andrew Long deserved a second chance....and f'd it up. Life happens.

George is a parallel to Long, who was cited as a basis for Cornell's view of PSU.

Did you miss that parallel despite Cowbell's post, or choose to go straight to Sandusky (who had nothing to do with PSU Wrestling)?

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I'll assume the former instead of assuming the worst in others.

(PS, nobody claimed it was intended as an intelligent response.)

My apologies for an inapt reference. I was not trying to implicate Joe Paterno in any wrongdoing; I was referencing the whole affair, which is how most non-PSU folks think of the whole thing, rightly or wrongly.

My only point was that it is unfair to single out a particular outlier to smear a whole program or institution.

As someone who was not following Cornell wrestling in 2011, I am completely unfamiliar with how Andrew Long is relevant. And it is good to assume ignorance rather than malice (which I have none towards anyone here; the Dumpster fire thread is another story :).

So don't kill me (yet).

Without Andrew Long in our lineup Cornell almost certainly wins the team title in 2011.

Long was cited in Cowbell's post above, that I replied to with the Billy George reference.
