You pretty much nailed it, yes.So staff what do you think, Hunter N to center next year? Tengwell and Wormly at guards, OF ag left tackle-Wallace, Shelton, and Christ fill out the other 2 Tackles. Nelson and Vega Ione depth at guards.
Yeah, and he came way back from serious injuries in a car accident; had to rebuild his body.Good for this dude. He was a big get over Ohio state when he came out.
A challenging story that ended pretty well to this point for this young man. I wish him the best and hope some more good comes his way...pretty sure it will.
Has Caedan done enough to earn the starting spot again next yr? He got essentially beat out by Effner this yr and frankly was a liability. JF has recruited a ton of OL the last 3 classes. It would be disappointing if one doesn't breakthrough to at least share time at Wallace's spotYou pretty much nailed it, yes.
No one knows--maybe he's goes 3rd, maybe he's a late pick, maybe he's an UDFA..Where does Juice get drafted ? 5th / 6th Rd ?
I've seen a current depth chart that lists Loane as a backup at Center. Trautwein will have to groom a center this off season not only as a backup to Nourzad for 2023 but to take over in 2024 and hopefully for 2025 as well. Could that be Loane? I'd kind of rather see Loane at Guard where he can focus on knocking a DT square on his a$$, but it will be interesting to see how the OL starters and depth shake out for 2023.Looking forward to seeing Ione next year. Kid is a east at 336 or so. Been a long time seeing a PSU OL knock a DT off the ball 3-4 yards and pancake him. Ione did it against MSU. With that kind of nasty streak wouldn't mind seeing him try out at DT where we are thin.
I'm with you regarding hoping Wallace's tenure at right OT is over. Just too many whiff's at blocking good DE's and now that there are other options and OT depth it's time for him to try and win a job inside.Depth is the new hardest thing to come by I. College football. Starters I’d go: olu, tengwell, Nourzad, Wallace, Shelton.
So much for the notion that a kid should come back if he's not likely to be a 1st or 2nd round pick. I think a 6th or 7th round pick will earn $700k or so. A lot of kids are more concerned about cashing in ASAP instead of waiting and trying to improve their status the following year.
This X 100. He obviously worked hard to not just come back from the accident but also play really well at the highest level. Wish him nothing but the best in the NFL.Yeah, and he came way back from serious injuries in a car accident; had to rebuild his body.
Wish this guy the best.
Good stuff and I agree....Wallace and Effner should be depth pieces, especially with the experience they bring. But, hopefully Shelton and/or Dawkins, guys with a perceived higher ceiling, can win a spot. I think JF has a strong loyalty to older guys that are good stories and are 'team' guys...but it was clear week one vs Purdue, that Caedan isn't good enough to be the full-time starter, and Effner is a quality rotational guy...if one or both are starting, IMO, that is underwhelming.I'm with you regarding hoping Wallace's tenure at right OT is over. Just too many whiff's at blocking good DE's and now that there are other options and OT depth it's time for him to try and win a job inside.
Could also see some movement with OL scholarships coming after the bowl game. Will Effner come back? If Shelton is ready to start at right OT after an off season in the S&C program it seems that Effner would be a more valuable backup than Wallace, as Effner has started at about every OL position except Center.
And where will Dawkins end up when he's healthy? Dawkins and Achumba are kinda two unknowns to the 2023 OL depth chart. Will they be healthy, will they compete for the 2 deep, or will they move on.......
May be more player moves on the OL in the next few months than we can anticipate.

Well, possibly, but hope Drew Shelton gets a shot at that job, and I'm guessing that Jven Williams will get a chance to play as a true freshman; he's ranked highly by Rivals and even higher by other servicesActually I have no problem on this one. He was ready to move forward. Nourzad to center where he actually may be a better fit than at guard, using that Ivy League intelligence and calling out assignments.
The real issue is at Right Tackle, and I really hope Wallace and Effner stay.
And a lot if guys don't want to be in school any longer. Lots of things go into this. Returning isn't a guarantee your stock improves. We've seen countless kids return to school and the stock fall.So much for the notion that a kid should come back if he's not likely to be a 1st or 2nd round pick. I think a 6th or 7th round pick will earn $700k or so. A lot of kids are more concerned about cashing in ASAP instead of waiting and trying to improve their status the following year.
$700 K if he makes the team-if the NFL tells a guy to go back to school he should probably listen, going from practice squad to waiver wire to practice squad isn't as good as playing CFB, especially now with some NIL income avail. So much for the notion that a kid should come back if he's not likely to be a 1st or 2nd round pick. Wonder how PSU developed Wallace as an OT since at the Hun School in Princeton he was a highly rated OG. did the high school coaches know more than PSU?I'm with you regarding hoping Wallace's tenure at right OT is over. Wonder if Birchmeier would be an option for the backup at Center in 2023 as he's enrolling in January and will be at PSU for Spring practices, along with Williams who I'm betting ends up at OT.

That's just what you think is better. Many of these kids don't want to be college. They can move on with their life and have a shot at their dream. If it works then great. If not, hopefully you have a plan B$700 K if he makes the team-if the NFL tells a guy to go back to school he should probably listen, going from practice squad to waiver wire to practice squad isn't as good as playing CFB, especially now with some NIL income avail.
Sorry but Nourzad is a downgrade from Juice at centerYep the decision to try the NFL or stay in college is different in so many ways for each player that it is pretty useless to try and figure out what an individual player considered important to them when making that decision,
Gatta thank Scruggs for his big contribution to turning the PSU OL from a deficiency into what is becoming a strength and just wish him well in attaining his dreams, whatever they are,
Fortunately for us as PSU football fans there actually seems to be great options in the program to weather his loss and put together an OL as good or better in 2023.
What advice would you give Scruggs? Would you tell him to skip the bowl game?Sorry but Nourzad is a downgrade from Juice at center
You know that based upon what?Sorry but Nourzad is a downgrade from Juice at center
You know that based upon what?
Yep, you should be sorry for jumping to that conclusion.
If you actually read what I wrote you'd realize I didn't try and predict one way or the other regarding a replacement for Scruggs, just that with the depth and talent that PSU has built on the OL that there is a decent chance that the OL can still be as good or possibly even better than what we saw with the improved 2022 OL. Fashanu, a maturing Tengwall, Wormley, a maturing Shelton two high 4 star incoming players..... Lots of talent that PSU didn't seem to have in recent years.
when did I say i thought it was better? -I said if the NFL tells you to come back you should-neither of us know what the NFL told Juice. That's just what you think is better. Many of these kids don't want to be college. They can move on with their life and have a shot at their dream. If it works then great. If not, hopefully you have a plan B
If that is all true…….all of a sudden the QBs will be much better, the running backs will be much better, the receivers will be much better, and the defense will be much better. Even the special teams will be better. Amazing what a top notch O line will do.You know that based upon what?

Who do you think is telling kids to "go back" to school. You realize that's not the info they're given when they submit their name, right?when did I say i thought it was better? -I said if the NFL tells you to come back you should-neither of us know what the NFL told Juice.
Hey man I hope it works out but if you are asking who you would rather have at center next year I am unsure who is going to say they would rather have Nourzad than Juice. You know that based upon what?

Nope, nobody did or is going to ask who you or I want at center. Scruggs is gone, Mike Webster isn't transfering to PSU, nor is Stefen Wisniewski mustering up eligibility to help out. It's the nature of college football for teams to replace players they would rather not replace.Hey man I hope it works out but if you are asking who you would rather have at center next year I am unsure who is going to say they would rather have Nourzad than Juice.
Nourzad struggled like hell this year.

There will likely be some young olinemen competing for the 2023 starting Center position in addition to Nourzad. But whoever wins the job should have a very good group of players with them on the oline. If it happens to be Nourzad and he is too weak a link we may even see one of the top freshman olinemen that are enrolling in January such as Birchmeier get a shot at it before the heart of confernce play begins. PSU will have a great nucleus of olinemen to build around as it seems that Fashanu, Tengwell and possibly Wormley will be returning starters. A better threesome to build around than PSU has has in some years.
