Penn State enters top five wrestling programs of all time

I still kick myself for not going in 1953 when the championships were in State College and I was there. Of course I was only 2 at the time, but still should have made the effort!

Slacker! #NotARealFan. ;)

Jammen will not be happy. Last year he claimed we were behind the Gophers and a few others. Then I threw out some AA and individual title stats and didn’t hear back.

Will be a few successful years before overtaking OU, but then some work before climbing higher. I’m not a titles trump all guy, so we need to make serious headway on the Cyclones in # of AAs, etc, not just team titles, before moving into the #3 spot imho.

Of course, then it’s a huge climb to the top 2.

At least you don't have someone that didn't realize wrestling existed until 1975 walking around claiming they are your big brother. I demand a DNA test.

Iowa State appears twice on the list.

Note the tribute to Iowa State via their banner at the 34 sec mark, in the Okie segment. Curious choice for a video clip to tout the Sooners.

I just saw this. You do realize that no stats were used to put PSU at #5, just a subjective opinion. When you can top the Gophers in
these, then I'll take your posts seriously:
1) # of years dominating another team without a dual loss
2) # of years placing in the top three at NCAA's.
3) # of National Dual titles (thanks Carl)
4) # of team wins

these, then I'll move the goalposts again:
1) # of years dominating another team without a dual loss
2) # of years placing in the top three at NCAA's.
3) # of National Dual titles (thanks Carl)
4) # of team wins
Fixed.

Talk about cherry picking stats and doing a crappy job at it. Penn State has more NCAA team championships than Minnesota (7-3), more team conference championships than Minnesota (not even remotely close, 34 vs. 11), more individual champions and individual championships (29/37 vs. 17/22), more top 3 NCAA finishes (15-14),. a better historical record (918-307-37 vs. 951-444-24). Do you just pull stuff out of your ... without even thinking?

he puts a lot of thought into his craft. at least a 2hr analysis with each post.

Well, let me clarify it for you:
1) # of years dominating another team without a dual loss
Minny's 18 year streak finally ended, Penn State on a 2 win streak
2) # of years placing in the top three at NCAA's.
In this century: Minny 9, PSU 7
3) # of National Dual titles (thanks Carl)
Minny dominated with 9 until Cael's jealousy killed the event
4) # of team wins
Minny has more

Yes, and if Nick Saban keeps it up for 3 more decades Bama may one day challenge Princeton's complete and utter domination of College Football.

You gotta have goals.

Seriously, diversity is a very good thing, and Jammen's good humor is always welcome.

Roar, you are one of the most benevolent and forgiving persons I know. I'm still not over the one thread Jammenz started, can't remember the exact title now, that was about 100 pages long. That alone could constitute permanent banishment.

Gotta believe if the Bear had been granted nearly as many do overs as Nick's Alabama teams the man under the Houndstooth hat would have a few more.
Unless he would adapt to today's PC environment and kids, he might have a tough go in the world we live in now.

I believe Alabama under Bear was the first SEC school to play African-Americans. To push the point home he scheduled USC for a home game and watched as USC's athletes ran circles around 'Bama's all white team and slower team.

I am pretty certain Bear Bryant would have managed to fit into today's world.
