Penn State Wrestling Stats

The top 50+ NCAA tournament wrestler list (linked in post #40) has been updated. Gable Steveson enters the list at #26. For the 5th year wrestlers, I listed them separately at the bottom. It didn't feel right putting CStar at #1 ahead of Cael and especially O'Toole at #3 just behind Cael. Including the 5th year, Fix, Keckiesen and Kerkvliet would also be in the top 50.

Today's Penn State wrestling stat

Which Penn State wrestler had a higher pin percentage one year in the upper weights than Cael Sanderson did in 3 years at 184?

What, no takers on this trivia? Okay. It's Bo Nickal!

By the way, help me out with this next one:

I used to be able to remember the specific instances in which Zain got taken down after his freshman year. Struggling now. Obviously Sorensen did, but only and I mean only in the one match at Carver (I met Zain's Dad twice and he said Zain had a bad weight descent beforehand, which is why he was so unlike himself). I think Hayes might have had one in the match where Zain ultimately teched him 20-4 but that could be very wrong. Heilmann in the 10-4 NCAAs match possibly? I don't think any of the many he pinned took him down but could be wrong. It was always an incredibly big deal, almost a statewide news event, when Zain surrendered a takedown. A reversal? LOL! I'm quite sure Zain never got reversed, certainly after his last 3 years.

I remember watching Zain get taken down by Lavion Mayes for the first points of the match in the NCAA Finals at St. Louis in 2017. It didn’t end well for Lavion. As Zain proceeded to punish him on the way to an 18-2 TF.

During the Cael Era, Penn State actually improved it's win % for All-American final matches with last week's tournament. Since 2011, Penn State has a record of 69-27 in 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th place matches.

Shown below are all the teams with at least 40 AAs and the win % for 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th place matches since 2011.
