The 45 projects include those for improving highways, bridges, and bike and walking paths spread among 22 counties. The projects are being funded by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation's Multimodal Transportation Fund. The next round of applications for the fund are due by March 30. In the current round, PennDOT received 222 applications requesting more than $241 million. READ MORE

The Holland Tunnel needs four years' worth of repair work to fix the damage caused by Sandy in 2012, officials told the Port Authority's board. The toll on Interstate 66 inside the Capital Beltway reached $46.50 for a solo driver during a recent morning rush, just below a record of $47.25 set last month. For much of the morning, there were no major crashes in the D.C. region, but a heavy volume of commuters created delays on several highways in the Washington area. The toll reached its peak about 8:30 a.m. About the same time the toll peaked, delays worsened as a crash blocked some inbound lanes of the Roosevelt Bridge. READ MORE

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission said it will begin a major project to completely rebuild and widen a heavily traveled seven-mile section of its Northeastern Extension (Interstate 476) in Montgomery County, which is located northwest of Philadelphia. State Transportation Secretary Leslie Richards, who is the CEO of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, also chairs the commission that oversees the tolled highway system. READ MORE
