Pennsylvania's most exciting current wrestlers

Most dominate would be Spencer Lee, but most exciting I think is Sammy Sasso. He does some crazy scrambling that keeps you on the edge of ur seat. Always exciting to see him wrestle.

Sasso - puts everybody on their backs
Brian Courtney - makes funk watchable
Zack Trampe - relentless motor
KJ Fenstermacher - comes out on fire, sometimes too much which can make his 3rd periods (if they get there) exciting as well
Matt Marino - loves the big move
Jon Miers - physical and great gas tank
John Pipa - always scoring points

No D7 guys on here as I don't see them regularly, but got to see 3 of the best teams from there this weekend. Its hard to say a 285 is a most exciting wrestler and I won't but have to say a was thoroughly impressed with how active Brendan Furman was for a 285. The big guy can move.

Dice just out of curiosity from a Hawkeye perspective.. who will the toughest opponents be for Lee, Teasdale, Murin, and Sasso in the post season tournaments coming up?

Sasso will have Verklereen if he stays at 145. One of the most anticipated match up's in the State

I really don't think Teasdale or Lee will be challenged at all. But Lee could see Chlebove if they both stay at 126.

Murin will have Matthews from Reynolds who is ranked slightly ahead of him right now

Because of the levels of action can vary dramatically by weight:
106-132: Lee, Teasdale, Courtney, Desanto
138-170: Sasso, Labriola
182+: Beard, Hoffman, Stefanik, Janney

Lee's will be Austin DeSanto. He took him apart last year, but I've seen and talked to DeSanto earlier this year and he is much more put together this year. Noticeably larger. Still won't beat Lee but I wouldn't be surprised if he kept it around a major. That is , if he can handle the cut.

Sasso will have Verkleeren if he stays at 145 and although I think Sasso is more talented, Verkleeren is a very tough and very strong kid who won't get 'Sasso'd.'

Teasdale is AA and will roll through 126 - nobody elite there or dropping from 132.

Murin is also AA and will have Cole Matthews to deal with at 138 or Courtney if he drops to 132. They are the 3 of the quartet that Courtney came out on top of in last years state bracket.

Chlebove is going 120

Murin will have his hands full with either Courtney or Matthews, both returning state champs, as they will with Murin. Either of them can beat the others. Will be a headline state final either way.

Thanks for the insight guys, PA instate wrestling is just as good as some national tournaments, just a wealth of studs.
By my count, PA has 55 D1 commits in the 2017 class, plus another 4 already in 2018 (Teasdale, Beard, Duggan, Karoly) and 1 in 2019 (Chlebove).

That doesn't include strong D1 prospects who remain uncommitted (Sasso, Hartman, Matthews, Patrick, Vulakh, Anderson, Britton, etc.). And for some reason it seems a lot more PA seniors are uncommitted than at this time last year (though I think with possibly a very few exceptions, the D1 starters are spoken for).

I might also be missing guys at prep schools who are from PA ... not always easy to remember who's from where.

I'm going old school Hughesville grad Clyde Frantz and best man to not win state title Denny Ryder.

Best man to not win state title: Ed Ruth or Phil Davis.

Also pretty certain Sylvester Terkay never won states at Canon Mac. He won an NCAA title at NC State the year after finishing 2nd to Kurt Angle.

Hankerson from Boiling Springs, Lane from Southern Columbia, McGill from Chestnut Ridge, Edsell from Wyalusing, Baney from Huntingdon, Arnold from Coudersport, Farber, Northern Lehigh, Oliver, Huntingdon, and Zimmerman from Troy. Also Josiah Jones from Westmont Hilltop...seen this kid now for 3 years and he is a good one.

Lot's of prospects but this kid from Clearfield, Luke McGonigal -195, has some talent and probably worth keeping an eye on.. Not sure of his intentions but am interested in his progress come tourney time (District 9).

I've seen him come up. Good wrestler who has a shot to go far at Hershey. Will have a chance to see him a few more times in the upcoming tournament with some of the other schools in that area. Beat the kid from Altoona 6-1 and beat the kid from Port Allegheny in a tech fall. Impressive showing.

Unless I am mistaken, Terkay never even qualified for state. He was pretty good, but never made it out of WPIALs. I also believe he wrestled 189lb as a senior, which considering how big he was as a heavyweight at NC State, is another bit of semi-interesting trivia.

No way this is possible is it?

Lynn Perry: I remember him, I believe he hurt his knee before states. Saw him maul Max Snyder at the dist. 4 finals way back.

Lynn Perry had a 3/4 nelson which was unstoppable. Dude was like 6' 8" and 275.

Dan Hildebrand - Northeast Bradford
Was Dan the guy who was pinned at Districts by Bobby Kilgus from Warrior Run? (1978) Bobby was a below average wrestler, but when he slapped that far cradle on... it was lights out. He was a teammate of mine and the guys in the room knew to avoid it. He pinned his way to States with that thing.

Isn't the question about current wrestlers, and looking for plural?

The guy was a freak of nature. He would pick up local heavyweights up over his shoulders and lay them down nice and easy on their backs. LOL I believe he ended up winning the US heavyweight arm wrestling championship. That and removing car engines by hand in the garage.

I wouldn't call a guy making it to states as below average
