Per the Abdul Carter tow truck incident, doesn't the NIL provide a 24 hour customer service line?

...for situations like this one.

Entitled Player: I didn't something that might be considered dumb if someone else did it, and I might do another thing or two others may consider stupid if I don't get my way now.

NIL Customer Service: Bear with me (much less that a typical human). Your replacement car and legal representative will be there within 10 minutes. Please hold for a Mental Wellness Advisor to assist you until this is fully resolved.

In my days, that line went directly to Joe's house,

And as soon as Joe heard the story he called the player a dumbass.

Great business idea! Call it the NIL Nexus or NIL Notifier.

Parking up there has always been an issue. Tow Truck drivers don’t play.

Somehow I think back then the tow truck driver wouldn’t care or players were that stupid.
Players back then didn't have $100k cars from NIL and the apartment complexes weren't so far off of campus that you had to drive to them to visit a friend. Many of the luxury apartment complexes are well off campus, separating many of the residents from their friends requiring a drive to visit, and they lack guest parking.

The apartment complex where this occurred is near no other student housing at all. It is headed halfway towards Nittany mall. The residents get a parking pass and can go into the office (not late at night on a weekend though) and get up to 2 guest parking passes. There is no one the street parking either. There is literally no way that a resident of this apartment complex can have guests that park legally at the time that this occurred unless it was planned before close of business that day. Kids don't do that.

The entire incident is a product of big money student housing and predatory tow companies in State College maximizing their profits at the expense of kids that they see a walking dollar signs.

That comes with the territory. You want big NIL money you get everything that comes with it.

My point is that it's not supported. You give a guy a $100k vehicle and they are going to visit a friend at some point in one of the many large student apartment complexes off campus that do not have sufficient guest parking. It's not just football players running into the problem. It's any student with a car at UP.

The tow operations are preying on them and the apartment complexes maximized their profit by maximizing the apartments and minimizing the parking to only the residents plus very little guest parking. Even parents are at risk if they bring something up to their kids that live in these apartment complexes. They just don't have sufficient legal guest parking. But there are always spaces because not every resident sits at home 100% of the time.

Good for the tow operations. Follow the rules or pay the consequences. Life is simple the majority of the time. They all know what can happen if they park there. That's the risk they elected to take.

BS, take the bus or walk. Like real students. At this point I do not give a shit about PSU football. They are pros and should be treated as pros.

So his 100k vehicle means he can park in my designated spot if I have a 20 year old POS? Because he's special? Parking is at a premium there and he should know the rules.

Either stupid, lazy, or entitled.

You do know that it isn't just FB players whose cars are being towed at predatory rates in state college? He gets no special privilege. ALL STUDENTS are being F'd over by the apartment complex's lack of guest parking and the over-aggressive towing in SC.

Guy is making serious cash . Knows tow truck vultures are omnipresent.

Easily could have Ubered and had zero problems.

Doesn't know this. May not have previously had a car in SC and is like 20 years old. Put yourself in the shoes of a kid with a car for the 1st time and never having experienced this. He wanted to call 911 because he thought a guy was driving off with his $100k car without authority. He!! I'm almost 50 and have never personally experienced it.

It’s State College. He has been there for nearly three years. He knew. Every student knows.

Every student does not know. I have several in the extended family there over the last few years. They absolutely did not know and one did have it towed when he was inside a friend's place for 10 minutes. The tow companies there are vultures and they prey on kids without much life experience.

Don't park where you're not allowed to park

You can't park illegally--if done so, there's consequences--stop bitching

Agreed. Surely you agree that you should not pick up a large metal tow bar and threaten to physically harm a student with it? Carter was charged. The tow op MUST BE CHARGED. He also committed a crime.
No….he MAY have committed a crime. I am sure that Carter didn’t walk to the truck with his hands down, block the door and never said a word. Did Carter raise his hands? Did he say something threatening? Did the driver have reason to fear a physical altercation?

The driver could be charged but perhaps the investigating officers saw or heard enough for them believe the driver was justified.

None of us know what happened. We all should have learned the last ten years to never trust the press. Wait until you know more before convicting either actor.

Going by the official report, Carter said he was going to call 911 and the tow op continued to hook up the tow and headed to get into his truck to drive away. Carter blocked the entry to the truck with his forearm (no mention of any threat or raising hands as much as posters want to conjure up these ideas).

Then the tow op picked up a large metal bar and threatened Carter with it. That is 100% a crime. Carter had not touched him or threatened him according to the official report.

BS. Every student knows about the parking crap in SC. Upperclassman tell freshman the first week. Students warn parents and friends when they visit. It’s always a topic of discussion. Znd there are signs everywhere.

Don't think so. "Every" student doesn't know the deal until they or someone they are friends with experiences it. That's ridiculous. Do you even remember being a kid in college? You were figuring all kinds of stuff out on the fly for the first time.

Further, Carter was charged and should have been. No one is arguing that he should not have been.

But for some reason, many of you believe it is perfectly fine for a tow op in a non-violent misunderstanding to go pick up a large metal tow bar and threaten physical harm to a student. Why? That is not normal. It is a crime and the tow op has to be charged.

I remember quite well being a freshman and upperclassmen telling us right away beware of SC ripping off students especially tow truck operators at parking lots. And at least once a month you saw some car being towed. Everybody knows.

Again, you have no idea what happened. What was said, how Carter blocked the door, was he threatening. The officers on the scene and the DA seem to agree that charges against driver are not warranted.

If there is a trial we may learn more. But for we don’t know all the facts.

If I felt threatened by them I would. Carter was wrong--his actions were wrong. He's the one that committed the crime hence the charge. The tow truck driver was depending himself against a student unwilling to allow his vehicle to be rightfully towed.

You can't threaten to physically harm a student with a deadly weapon -- if done so, there's consequences (except in State College apparently) - stop bitching
Yes you can. Carter was the instigator and the only person that did anything wrong.
Notice you're the only person with this insane belief that Carter's the victim here.
He shouldn't be suspended but you're dead wrong. Although when aren't you.

The tow op picking up a deadly weapon and physically threatening Carter was dumb and criminal. He must be charged. Read the report. It was a non-violent misunderstanding until the tow up picked up a large metal tow bar and threatened to use it on Carter.

Carter could have still called 911, only person that stopped him from doing that was himself

And the guy trying to get in the tow truck and driving off before he had the opportunity to get the authorities there.
Yes, the guy that was doing his job. Wasn't aware tow truck drivers are supposed to wait around for the owner to call the cops? Carter could have still made the call, not doing so is 100% on him. His car was going to an impound lot, not disappearing into the night never to be seen again.

He's allowed to do that. The driver has no obligation to allow Carter to do anything. Carter can call 911 and they can sort it out after it's towed.

He's not allowed to pick up a large metal bar and make physical threats to a young man that hasn't touched him. That is a crime. It is called making terroristic threats with a deadly weapon in PA law.
