Peyton Robb

Picked up a life threatening skin infection at NCAA's. Still in the hospital and has had several surgeries to remove necrotic tissue. Consider donating as well as praying.

Incredible that he wrestled his semi and placement matches before knowing what was up.
Damn, that's awful. That sounds like what happened to Alex Smith. I hope he makes a full recovery.

Js not trying to hijack the post but we were watching the PSU/Iowa match from 2018 and when Brandon Sorensen wrestled Zain, I told my family he had cancer and I thought doing well now. Is that correct? Thanks in advance as he too seemed 1st class.

From what I know he is either in remission or fully recovered. He works out in the Iowa room now. I've seen videos of him drilling with Spencer.

Saw news he was in remission pretty quickly (think April 2020? So within months of initial diagnosis) Shows how stupid cancer was to pick a fight with him!

I just donated. Get well soon Peyton. I'm rooting for you and your family.

Necrotizing fasciitis is a nasty thing. Alex Smith was arguably the most prominent case in recent times. You can google images of his leg before and after the tissue removal, but I don’t recommend doing so while eating. Obviously his mobility will be strongly impacted so who knows when he’ll step on the mat next. The road to recovery from those surgeries will be long and filled with grueling physical therapy sessions and more redevelopment of muscle after he’s discharged from PT. Nevertheless, all the best to him on his road to recovery

Smith suffered a broken fibula & tibia. It was a compound fracture & gruesome injury. He then developed necrotizing fasciitis. Unbelievable that he returned to the NFL some 600 days after his injury. One of the greatest comebacks in NFL history.

Hoping for a similar path for Robb.

I love the wrestling community. The donations have blown by the requested amount and I assume will keep coming. I became a big fan of Robb this year especially seeing the class in which he handled his losses. Prayers are definitely being sent his way

It’s not exactly contagious in that way like ringworm or something. You need to have a skin puncture and often some kind of compromised immune system first.
Well... We see blood on occasionally...means skin is broken. However, did not know about his compromised immune system... Thanks

Oh, that was not to imply any kind of pre-existing condition of Robb’s—I have no clue. Was just sharing what I learned from a recent bout of the same kind of infection.

If another wrestler would have been exposed to. him at NCAA's, they would already have symptoms within a few days.

Praying for a speedy recovery. That’s terrible. Necrotizing fasciitis took my uncle years ago. Crazy how fast it spreads.

It sounds horrific what he's already gone through. Disturbing that its onset came during the NCAAs, but I suppose a bruise of this sort just looks like any other bruise. He's in my thoughts, that's going to be a lot to come back from, and I'm not even talking about wrestling.

Tony Ramos posted something vague on twitter about other wrestlers getting skin funk from the tournament. A lot of people in the comments were speculating the SteriLaser things they used on the mats were to blame

Update, found it:

Time to go back to time-tested cleaning equipment. Bring out the bleach and clean water

need to keep people off of them. Far too many people - in street shoes - walk on them

Yo, Carter, take note. This is the real world and “Joey Tough Guy” with the silly masquerade is just as vulnerable. (Sorry guys and gals but this hits home. Robb has always embodied class and humility.)

Reading the comments and someone showed a picture of Wittlake in the hospital as well. That’s at least 4 and probably more we will find out about
Yeah, I'm starting to think there should be an investigation if there are this many skin-related hospitalizations. Or lawsuits.

I bet there will be. Now that it’s out there more and more people are coming forward. There has to be an investigation with this many kids in the hospital

Millner can't be tied to this. He was out before the NCAA tournament.
Not the specific outbreak at nationals.

But if his infection stemmed from the same cleaning practices (for example), that would indicate a bigger problem.

Didn’t RBY have a bout with something similar a few years ago in the off season? Spider bite on his leg that lead to sepsis or staph infection?

Something like that.

Not to nitpick, but spider bites are exceptionally rare. Most cases of reported “spider bites” are simply a localized staph infection (furuncle) from minor (non-bite) trauma which allows a portal of entry for the bacteria.

I’m not a big fan of spiders, but boy do they have about the worst PR team of any of God’s creatures (and that includes Nelson Brands).
